Since Movie Studio is a stripped down version of Vegas, pretty well all of it should apply. There may be some differences (for example, the actual rendering process) but, overall, it should apply.

Here’s an answer from Rob Lohman at a different location:

Greg: the project settings should be widescreen 16:9 in PAL or
NTSC. Don’t change that!

When exporting QuickTime go to custom and then video tab.
Make sure frame size is set to custom frame size and set the
vertical to normal (which will be 480 pixels for NTSC or 576 for
PAL) or a lower value (which you usually want if you want to
put it up on the web!), usually 50%.

Then use then multiply the horizontal resolution (720 for both
PAL & NTSC) with the pixel aspect ratio number in the project
settings (which is 1.2121 for NTSC and 1.4568 for PAL 16:9).

This should be either 872 (NTSC) or 1048 (PAL). If you are using
a lower resolution take the same percentage out of the horizontal
resolution as well (usually again 50%).

Make sure the pixel aspect ratio on this screen is set to 1.0

This should get you a widescreen movie.

Did you turn off Terminal Services? If yes, turn it back on. Otherwise, can you find any more info?

Sounds like you don’t have the proper video codec installed for the type of video you are trying to load. Where did the video come from? For example, many still cameras will take “video” clips but to load those in Vegas requires using an MJPEG codec to be installed.

I know of no other DVD apps that will read the sfl files. However, why don’t you first try updating to DVDA 3.0c?

This is pretty normal when you have very fine lines in high resolution images. You can try to reduce it by rendering in BEST, using Reduce Interlace Flicker, and maybe add a slight blur.

I would strongly recommend downloading the demo version and trying it. Coming from a FCP background, there will be MANY differences – not necessarily “bad” differences but you’ll have to learn to approach things the way Vegas does things. I, personally, LIKE the way Vegas does things. It is very logical in how it works.

One of the first things to learn: there IS NO Razor tool – you don’t need one. Simply put the cursor where you wish to split the event and press “S”. If you check out Vegas, you may want to take a quick look through my newsletters (link below my name) paying particular attention to the “Beginner’s Corner” series beginning in issue #4.

Just to expand a little bit:

a) yes but some people have experienced missing effects in Vegas 6 after uninstalling Vegas 5. Reinstalling Vegas 6 returned them.

b) As Gary said, Excalibur will automatically detect which versions you have installed. Just re-run the installation after Vegas 6 has been run. As for scripts that do not have an installation, simply copy them from the Vegas 5 “Script Menu” folder to the Vegas 6 “Script Menu” folder. They should work fine.

d) there are also some “little things” that are a big aid in Vegas 6. For example, out of sync notification, improved rendering speeds, dissolve length indicators, VST support, and don’t forget DVDA 3!

You don’t have to actually uninstall it. You can simply turn it off in the preferences. Once turned off, Vegas 6 will load at roughly the same speed that Vegas 5 loaded.
