Instead of linking to a picture, link to a SUB MENU and make the picture the background image. By default, it will have a “return” button to go back to the main menu.

According to the subject, you have Vegas Movie Studio 6 – not Vegas 6.

In the full version of Vegas, a very easy method is to use Track Motion to resize and position the clip. Does VMS have Track Motion? If yes, look at issues 2, 3, and 4 of my newsletter where I show how to do this in Vegas 4 (the technique is still the same).
If you do not have Track Motion, do you have Pan/Crop? If yes, open Pan/Crop and make the “F” box LARGER (which will make the image smaller). You can then move the “F” box around to position the PIP.

Computer –> firewire –> camera –> RCA –> Cheap TV
This should let you view your project via external preview. Make sure you pick the firewire device as the output in preferences. This also assumes your camera allows pass-thru of the signal.

Right-click each of the keyframes and change them to linear. Also change the “smoothness” setting to zero for each keyframe.

For the best snapshot possible from Vegas, there’s multiple settings to change. The EASIEST way to do that is to use a script which will change those settings, save the snapshot, and then reset the settings. For more info on that, look at vol 1 #5 of my newsletters.
Also, note that you probably don’t want to go above 4×6 as standard DV-AVI is not very high in resolution. If you have HDV, you may be able to go a little larger.

First of all, if you changed the ram preview amount, drop it back down to the default of 16 megs.
Another thing you might try is reducing the rendering threads down to 1 (makes Vegas 6 behave more like Vegas 6 but will generally slow down rendering speeds.)
Finally, does your project have a lot of large images? You might either try reducing the size of those images OR create several smaller pre-renders before doing the final render.

Can you try connecting a camera? See if the card recognizes that. You could always install a new card to help see if it might be a card issue.

Is the file actually that size? Or does DVDA “think” it’s that size?
Can you rerender from the NLE at the proper bitrate for the length of your video?
Personally, I wouldn’t want DVDA recompressing an MPEG2 file. You’ll lose too much quality doing that.
