Vegas is NON-destructive. To do a destructive trim, place the clip on the timeline, trim as needed, and then render to a new file. Finally, you’ll have to delete your original file.

the timeline area on the FX boxes are resizable. Sounds like yours has been resized to “nothing”. Move the mouse toward the bottom edge. As soon as it turns into an up/down arrow, click and drag upwards. You can also read about this in vol 6 #1 of my newsletters.

Those “modes” are only available at the track level. Perhaps if you explain what you’re really wanting to do a better suggestion might be possible.

Ken, take a look at my newsletters that deal with making DVDs. WMV is a horrible format to use between Vegas and DVD Architect – it will lose a ton of quality and take a LONG time to render.
Since DVDs *ARE* MPEG2, that’s the format to use from Vegas. A couple of issues deal with going from Vegas to DVD Architect – I think they’re Vol 1 #7 and Vol 4 #1 but that’s just from memory and I can’t be certain those are the exact issue numbers.

Create the logo with a transparent background, add it to a track above the video, extend it out the full length of the project (if you wish it to be over the entire project), and you can even lower the opacity if you wish it to be somewhat transparent. Use Pan/Crop and/or Track Motion to resize and position it.

Hank, you can use a script to lock an event. In fact, the script could TOGGLE the lock switch (lock it if it’s unlocked and unlock it if it’s locked). Scripts can be easily assigned to a keypress so what you want to do can easily be done.

Yes. Your photo editor could easily create those images.

There is NO need to remove them. They are set to “do nothing” by default. If you wish to remove them as a default you can but I see no reason to do so. Two of the three I use fairly frequently.

You’ll need to create the overlays you want. If you create them to size and put them on a transparent background, you can just pop them on a track above the video. Otherwise you many need to use Pan/Crop and/or Track Motion to size/position the image as needed.
