Theo, download the current version of Excalibur 6 and try it again. If you need to do so, send me an e-mail and I can send you another key that will get you going for two weeks. The expiration issue was taken care of in the middle of January.
As for the differences, I’d rather you test out which one you like best for yourself. Some people like one, others like the other one, and many opt for both.

Batch capturing is not available in HDV. I don’t know of any systems that will batch capture HDV.

No software of any significance is “bug free” but I don’t know of any major issues with Vegas. Some people have issues with certain tasks/features that others are using without issue. Many issues seem to be related to wide variety of hardware/software combinations Vegas is being run on.

Another option would be to right-click the “incorrect” file in the Project Media, choose “Replace”, and pick the correct file. Not sure why the file was being confused, though.

Actually, I’d guess it’s the other way around. It sounds like the FX and Transition windows may be docked on top of the preview screen and need to be undocked. Do as Terry said and click on the little dots in the upper left corner of the dialogs and drag away from that area.

You might try right-clicking more often! There’s TONS of functionality that can be easily achieved doing that.

Select the various WAV files, right-click one of them and drag to the timeline area. When you let go of the right button, in that menu choose the option to “Add across TRACKS”

If you hold down CTRL and drag it in the other direction, it will have a slight “snap” at the 100% mark. Also, if you are viewing the active take information, the percentage shows up on the audio track.
You can also right-click the clip, go to Properties, and then reset the “Playback Rate” to 100%. After you do this, you’ll need to resize the clip to the proper length.
Scripting is another means of performing this task. Scripting can reset the playback rate AND adjust the length to match the new speed.

Did you have the option to “Include Markers” checked?
Did you move the MPEG2 file from where it was rendered? The marker/chapter points are stored in a separate .sfl file so you don’t want to move them.
