I don’t think FCp works with the JVC, you have to use Lumiere. Do a search in the HDV forum,
I seem to remember some workarounds, and I think you need 5.0.3

That’s true if you’re only shooting in a studio. I’d rather lug around a few P2 cards in the field,
rather than a very expensive, very heavy deck and a very long extension cord. 🙂
Capturing to the upcoming Firestore or Cineporter, or the P2 card/laptop route seems better all around,
especially if you don’t already own a DVCPro HD deck. With P2 you’ll never need one. For mastering to HD you can rent one
    occasionally.

[Bear Baker] “It seems then that it would be a decent enough camera for 5k shooting to tape and later using P2 when the price/capacity improves.”

I didn’t get that from his post. It sounds like he’s formatting it Extended, but it’s
showing up Journaled. I don’t read where he tried manually disabling it in Disk Utility,
but hey, what do I know? 🙂

[David Roth Weiss] “He evidently can’t do that Ed.”

  • Go to the HDV Forum, you might get more answers.

You can disable Journaling right in the included Disk Utility. Select the disk and go to File/Disable Journaling

[David Roth Weiss] “Get Cocktail, a freeware utility, and turn journaling off after formating.”

Still on 10.3.9 here, but to add to Shane’s general FW points, I’ve found that when things do
go wrong, drive won’t mount, etc. it sometimes *will* mount on another computer, then will
when reattached to the other. I have some FW case that are USB/FW combos. If they wount
mount with FW, the USB generally still will, I then unmount it from the USB, shut it off,
and again I can then reattach under FW and will mount.

Duplicate the layer and use a matte to change only the specific area, and use tracking if it needs to move.
It’s all in the on-line help and the manual. Matte and tracking are the topics.

Oops, sorry, I just re-read your post. I didn’t notice that you already mentioned why you’re not using the plug-in.

I don’t know about creating flvs directly in Flash Professional, but the program comes with an FLV Export plug-in that
you install into QT. You can export an FLV directly out of FCP, and the window that pops up when you select that option
*does* include a de-interlacing option. The plug-in is included with Flash 8 Pro.

And I wouldn’t get to watch The Sopranos at 30,000 feet with an iMac. 🙂

[debe] “[MitchJi] “Another option that would probably cost less and give you much more screen real estate would be to get the 15″ and carry a second LCD for a dual screen configuration. In a wheeled case that would not be too hard. ”

Except that my wheeled case is used to also carry my DSR-45 when I travel. I usually do not have the room to pack another monitor. However, it is an interesting idea.

I still stand by my purchase. For the way I like to work, my 17″ been nothing but a pleasure to use. The fewer things I have to lug around, the better.

I know of a guy who takes his iMac G5 on the road. He seems to have much more of a hassle than I do with my laptop, even though he has the wireless keyboard and mouse. This is just my perception. He may think the same thing about my setup.”
