Many people seem to think the CUDA driver is all you need for the Nvidia cards. You also need a GPU driver, which is shown on System Prefs page, under CUDA, in the GPU driver listing, just below the CUDA driver listing. For Snow Leopard, the GPU number in the ( ) at the end of the line is the important number. For 10.6.8, you want driver 256.02.25f01. This can be found on the Nvidia Download Drivers web page.
We still recommend using the 4.0.19 CUDA driver.
For Lion, the correct GPU driver will be installed automatically, which is why you won’t find a Lion driver on the Nvidia site.

October 18, 2011 at 6:55 pm in reply to: DaVinci Resolve conflict with CommandSoft FibreJetYou can try replacing what is currently in your /etc/sysctl.conf file with this:
kern.sysv.shmmax= 67108864
kern.sysv.shmmin=1
kern.sysv.shmmni=512
kern.sysv.shmseg=128
kern.sysv.shmall=16384These values came from Steve King of Commandsoft, and helped another customer with a similar situation. For that customer, these values allowed both the Fibrejet and Resolve software to function. Your mileage may vary…

October 14, 2011 at 4:42 pm in reply to: how to fit resolve to a 15inch mac book pro screen?The stock 15″ Macbook Pro comes with a 1440×900 resolution display. The “Hi-Res” 1680×1050 display is an upgrade option. My guess is you might have the standard display.

After you install 8.1 and your system restarts, and you launch Resolve, it will automatically ask if you want to update the database. If you answer yes, it just happens. If you want the ability to ever go back to 8.0.1 for some reason, you should back up the database before allowing it to be updated. To do this, answer No to the update question, then click the Database Manager button at the bottom of the login screen, and select Backup, to backup the selected database. After that is done, select Upgrade, to upgrade the selected database.

I don’t think this should be needed for the GTX285, but it will work with it, and is required for the Q4000 card. So go to this link:
https://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-macosx-256.02.25f01-driver.html
And download and install the 256.02.25f01 driver, and see if that helps.
Also, if you could run the CaptureLogs app in the /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve path, it will create a .tgz file on your desktop. Send that file to davincihelp@blackmagic-design.com, along with your Mac .spx exported System Profile file, and we can take a look at those and see if there is anything strange looking.

Yes, you are using the correct slots.
Sascha provided a link to a CUDA test app he recommended in this thread:
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/277/9638#9670
It seems to work well. Give that a shot and see what it looks like.
What OS version are you using? I think all the versions normally have proper support for GTX285 cards. What CUDA version are you using? I’ve read reports that Lion does not always install the CUDA stuff properly, so if you are on Lion, that could be an issue. But if so, the CUDA test should show that.

With your hardware description, it should do what you are trying to do easily. So my only speculation is that you do not have the GTX285 and the GT120 in slots one and two of the Mac. If you are using those slots, make sure there are no displays connected to the GTX285 card.

October 6, 2011 at 11:16 pm in reply to: Resolve 8.0.1 + Mac Pro 4,1 + Red Rocket + GTX285>120 + OSX Lion 10.7.1 Problem!!Hi Matt,
I don’t know why your bar is not green.
If you can send us a copy of your Mac system profile in XML form (which is a .spx file) and your Resolve log files to davincihelp@blackmagic-design.com, that would be helpful.
To get the Resolve logs, run the CaptureLogs app in the /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve path. This will create a single .tgz file on your desktop.

October 6, 2011 at 2:37 am in reply to: Resolve 8.0.1 + Mac Pro 4,1 + Red Rocket + GTX285>120 + OSX Lion 10.7.1 Problem!!As Peter mentioned in the Red thread, you should be able to get at least 8 nodes of correction in Half Res mode with an HD timeline. Is your Config page Timeline Resolution set to 1920×1080?.
Yes, the GPU bar should be green.
You should not have any displays connected to the GTX-285 card, as that would reduce performance significantly.
Do you have any WFM displays open? This might also reduce performance. But it shouldn’t be this big of a hit. If you do have any open, try closing them all and see if that helps.
Someone in this forum in the past related that background apps running on the Mac can have adverse performance impacts. They specifically mentioned Chrome browser running Flash apps, HP printer driver and Dropbox. If you have any of those, or other apps running with Resolve, that might be a problem.
You mentioned on the Red forum that you had no issues using a Quicktime file. If you can load a QT file, and get several nodes of correction, but not with the Red files at Half Res Premium, there might still be something Rocket related going on. As Peter mentioned in the Red forum, with the Rocket removed, you should be able to playback in realtime with 1/4 Res Good settings. On our system here, pretty identical to your setup minus the Rocket card, we get very good performance in 1/8 Res Good mode.
I think we all are assuming you are using 4K files, although I don’t see anywhere that you’ve mentioned the file type. If you are using 5K Epic files, those are more processor intensive, and that would be a problem. I’ve heard that you need 2 Rocket cards to process 5K Epic files in real time. But I’m not sure if that is in Half Res mode, or only in Full Res mode.
