8.1 hung on database upgrade
Posted by Michael Stirling on October 14, 2011 at 1:07 pmhi
i’m updating to 8.1 now – the database upgrade has been going for 30 mins + (i know it takes a while) and i’m getting nervous.
Any advice
what happens if i crash/ force quit here?
thanks

October 14, 2011 at 1:13 pmHey Michael,
How many projects do you have in the database?
We recommend always doing a backup of your current database before an update just to be safe.
Please drop me a mail on davincihelp@blackmagic-design.com and i’ll do my best to help you out!
Thanks,

October 14, 2011 at 1:21 pmIt might take even a couple of hours depending on your database size/disk speed so please give it some time.
If you force quit, the database will roll back but that will take some time as well. Not recommended.

October 14, 2011 at 1:45 pmthanks y’all
i’ll sit tight – in the last few minutes it moved from the dreaded spinning wheel of death to a no-progress bar so something may be happening
(i’ve really got to do some DB housekeeping after this)

October 14, 2011 at 2:07 pmWhere might I find the procedure for updating properly from 8.0.1 to 8.1?
I just downloaded and installed, then restarted – it asked to update decklink as well and restart and now when i launch resolve i am a little confused – i of course want to backup the projects / database i already have as well as restore everything so i get it all back.
a link to a thread or BMD procedure protocol would be great OR if someone can just tell me 🙂
thank you!

October 14, 2011 at 4:23 pmAfter you install 8.1 and your system restarts, and you launch Resolve, it will automatically ask if you want to update the database. If you answer yes, it just happens. If you want the ability to ever go back to 8.0.1 for some reason, you should back up the database before allowing it to be updated. To do this, answer No to the update question, then click the Database Manager button at the bottom of the login screen, and select Backup, to backup the selected database. After that is done, select Upgrade, to upgrade the selected database.

October 15, 2011 at 6:06 pmYeah 🙂 !
Now make a new one and use the old one as backup only.
Resolve will fly with a lean DB.A slice of color…
