Resolve requires a minimum screen resolution of 1680×1050. So for a (non-Retina) 15″ MBP, you need to have the HiRes 1680×1050 display option. The standard 1440×900 resolution display will not work for Resolve.
The only possible exception to this is if you are using OSX 10.6.8. If you are, you can use the AppleDisplayScaleFactor command to squeeze the Resolve GUI onto the lower resolution display. This Cow thread provides the details: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/277/2987#2987
Note that this capability was removed in Lion, so only works with Snow Leopard.

Are you getting any warnings or errors when you launch Resolve? If so, what, exactly?
Do you have a guest and admin user login icon?

Yes, the manual in incorrect. Replace Render All with Select All.
Yes, when you select all, the clips do not all turn orange.

Like Daivd’s clip, your clip shows up fine in Windows and Mac Resolve V9 beta 3 on our systems.

Look in the Energy Saver section of Mac System Preferences, and uncheck the Automatic Graphics Switching mode.
Resolve has limited support for dual GUI displays. All you can put on a second GUI display are the WFM scopes.
If you are wanting the second display for grading, you will need to use a BMD UltraStudio 3D or Intensity Extreme box connected via Thundebolt. And then select that device in the Resolve Preferences window in the Video I/O area.

Select all will select all the clips in the timeline for rendering. You can verify that by looking at the In and Out timecode values.

Hi Adam,
David sent his clip, and it works fine on Windows and Mac systems (10.7.4 and 10.8) running Resolve 9 beta 3.
It also works on a very low end Windows system running 8.2.2 Lite.
I have not seen your file Adam. Have you sent it yet? If so, can you recheck you sent it to davincihelp?
Are you on a real Mac, or a Hackintosh of some sort?
Adam, you also mentioned you were using OSX Lion, but then said your OS version was 7.0.4, which is not a valid OSX version. Can you clarify that?

Hi Dave,
I was just noticing what you said your system specs were. I didn’t pay much attention earlier, as they were not relevant to PostgreSQL issues. If you ONLY have a 9400M GPU, I don’t think Resolve will run on that. You need at least a mid-2009 MBP that has both a 9400M and a 9600M GPU in it. If your MBP does not have the 9600M, it’s almost certainly not going to run Resolve.

Open the Project Manager window. Right click in an empty part of the Window. Select the Reset UI Layout menu item.

Do you have an existing database with stuff in it you care about?
If you are using V9, you can also use the new Disk Project based database, and not mess with PostgreSQL at all. Setting this up is detailed in the new V9 beta 3 Resolve manual, starting on page 609.
