Davinci Resolve won’t run on my 15″ Macbook Pro Mid 2012 :(

I believe you need at least 1680×1050 resolution to run Resolve.

Taken from the system requirements PDF on the BlackMagic website:
The Resolve application is optimized for 2560×1440 screen resolution but will work with a MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res (1680 x 1050) Widescreen Display and also 1920 x 1080 and higher screen resolutions. The Macbook Pro 15″ with Retina display should be operated in 1920 x 1200 resolution.

But I read somewhere here that davinci resolve 9 should be fine in a 1440×900 screen I just dont know how :/

Resolve requires a minimum screen resolution of 1680×1050. So for a (non-Retina) 15″ MBP, you need to have the HiRes 1680×1050 display option. The standard 1440×900 resolution display will not work for Resolve.

The only possible exception to this is if you are using OSX 10.6.8. If you are, you can use the AppleDisplayScaleFactor command to squeeze the Resolve GUI onto the lower resolution display. This Cow thread provides the details: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/277/2987#2987

Note that this capability was removed in Lion, so only works with Snow Leopard.

I am wondering if there is still a possible way to get a DaVinci Lite version that was designed to run on OSX 10.6.8

I am running the entire FCP7 Studio & LogicPro9 suite on a 2008 MacbookPro 17″ with two 23″ external Apple monitors and would like to keep everything running with this OSX on the same SSD.

I have tried to get an old version from BlackMagic that would run on OSX 10.6.8, but have been told that it is not longer available from them,

Any help would be deeply appreciated,

Man, I wouldn’t even try. It’s just too old at this point. Find a way to get a newer machine — they exist, and some are fairly affordable.

Look at it this way: 10 years ago, it cost more than $100K to run a fairly minimal version of Resolve.

Actually for me, the main issue is not hardware, it is the staying on OSX 10.6.8

Currently I am running the FCP7 Studio suite + LogicPro9 on this OSX without any glitches or problems.

If possible I would like to stay this way (ie glitch&problem-“free”). For coloring, Color 1.5 works very well.

I would however like to add DaVinci lite (the OSX 10.6.8 version) to my package and not have to go through, any delay causing software problems

Resolve has moved a long way from a compatible Snow Leopard version. You would be better off with a dual boot partition and a more up to date OS to run Resolve. If you need to stay snow leopard for FCP7 (which is a good idea), then I wouldn’t consider running Resolve on your hardware & software.
