hi there … you need to switch on ‘Live Update’ …. it is a button on the timeline window … i’m not in front of AE now, but if you search the help or google “Live Update” you should find it …

there is a button on the timeline window called “live update”, it is a wireframebox overlapping a solid box … it is next to where you can pick shy, frame blending, motion blur etc …

if it is selected then objects will be wireframe when you drag them…

    does that help?

maybe you have the ‘region of interest’ button selected, but with only a tiny bit selected … it’s the button at the bottom of the comp window to the right of where you select the preview resolution (Full, Half etc)

    ?

firstly, are you actually exporting using File->Export? If so, DON’T! … you should be using the render queue to output your movies … go to Composition->Add to Render Queue

then there are a number of settings you can choose from … if your composition settings are a broadcast preset (PAL, NTSC whatever) then you shouldn’t need to change the size of the output …

have a go at this, then if you have any more specific questions about the render queue then feel free to ask 🙂

    good luck

April 11, 2008 at 7:09 am in reply to: Letterbox widescreen for normal 4:3 ratio

i think you are doing the correct thing in AE … but it sounds like iDVD is pan-scanning (centre cutting) your footage. I haven’t used iDVD before, but there should be a setting in there to force it to letterbox the vision rather than centre cut. If there isn’t, then you need to use a more pro application like DVD studio pro…

if you just want it to run sped up you can can use the stretch panel … to see the stretch panel click on the button of the two brackets down in the bottom left of your timeline window. Set the stretch to 50% for double speed, 25% for 4x … etc etc ..

or you can use time remapping … probably easiest to search the manual or find a tutorial on time remapping as it’s a bit more complicated …

If you want it to actually look like it’s being fast forwarded on a VHS (with the horizontal lines and artifacting) then that involves a couple more steps… there are posts on the COW that other people have written about that.. search the archives for “fast forward” or “rewind” and you should find something ..
