  • URGENT!!! problem rendering out a widescreen dv footage

    hi
i shot a widescrren dv footage using my sony dcr hc-42e handy cam(it has true widescreen capability).i captured the footage in premiere pro using the following capture settings,
    720 x 576
    preset: D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9 (1.422)
    25 fps

when i playback the captured footage in full screen,it is in widescreen format,no problems there!.but when i import the same footage into aftereffects(6.5)and later when i render out the final movie.the final movie does not playback in widescreen format.it appears to be more squarish and streched vertically.
    what could be going wrong?

the composition setting for the footage in AE is,

    preset:PAL D1/DV Widescreen,720 x 576,16:9
    pixel aspect ratio:1.422
    25 fps

the footage seems to be interpreted correctly.but when i render out the movie,it is not wide screen.one more thing i noticed, the preview window in premiere pro for the above footage settings appears to be a proper widescreen(16:9) but in AE the preview window appears to be more squarish and the footage appears streched in the preview window itself.what should i do to render out the final movie as widescreen from AE?

    thx in advance.

if you are planning to play it back on a widescreen TV then that is correct. Televisions have rectangular pixels, so it will stretch itself back out. Computer Monitors have square pixels, so it looks like people are squished. If you don’t have a broadcast monitor hooked up then maybe burn it to DVD and play it back on the TV and you will notice it looks OK.
Check out the After Effects tutorial section here and I’m sure there are a couple articles on Pixel Aspect Ratio.

btw, there is a button somewhere in after effects called “Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction” or something like that, it will let you preview your footage without it looking squished

I am too having this problem – except my concern is that when i insert the rendered clip into windows movie maker – it remains to have that squarish look – where as my other footage which has not been inserted into after effects is wide – so as the scene changes it goes from squarish to wide and it just looks awkward…any idea on how to solve this or will it some how just go to wide when i burn it out? I just seems so unlikely of working to me..

    Thanks in adv.
