actually, i found what I needed! just changing it to be Stablise only, without crop. Then I can render this out and reimport it into a 1280×720 sequence.

hey, thanks for the replies. I could do it in AE, as I’ve done this many times. But as I’m converting from being a FCP/AE user to a PP/AE user I’ve been trying to work out how much I can do inside PP.

Dennis, I understand what you are saying .. but when you use the stabliser it will usually upscale the footage. What I’ve previously done in FCP is choose to not upscale the footage to retain quality, but then put the clip into a 1280×720 comp so that you don’t see the black edges when it is stablised. If I do what you suggest the clip will be scaling up, and then back down again.

    Any other thoughts?

FYI link below – anyone found a workaround to this besides rendering to the local drive?

    Hi!
Did you find a solution to this??? My eyes are bleeding as I sit here at 6.30am after a night of rendering out 2.15GB pieces!
Exactly the same deal, but we rendering to a NAS via ethernet.

    No problems with CS4.

    Drive is formated ext3.

    Please help ….

  • Thanks for the help guys – really appreciate it. I’m not after a cheap solution, or a cutting corners solution – but, this is a one off project and we don’t really need to think about future expansion.
So, if you don’t mind me picking you brains a bit more …
If we buy a MacPro and set it up to control the RAID – could we then share that RAID over ethernet? We are really only looking at editing on two machines at once. Maybe the MacPro and one MacBook Pro. Occassionally another MacBook Pro might jump in to access files. But never more than two editing simultaneously.

    Thanks again for the help

I run CS3 quite well on MBP 2.16GHz & 2GB RAM … the worst thing is just the 15″ screen size if you don’t have an external monitor.

you need to render out using the render queue with an alpha channel. You will need to use a codec that supports alpha channels like the Animation codec.

If you don’t understand what an alpha channel is, or what the Animation Codec is … then do a google search, COW search, AE help search and I’m sure you will learn quickly …

Then feel free to ask any more specific questions … good luck!

July 18, 2008 at 3:35 am in reply to: Ram Preview

RAM preview will only preview as much as it can store in the RAM … get more RAM, or preview at half quality … or just preview in short bits …

Pictures, photos, graphics etc should be interpreted as Fields OFF … unless for some reason the still image has come from interlaced video.

Shouldn’t make a difference if you render the nest or if you render the comp.

there are loads of free video tutorials here at the COW … many are at a beginner level …
    https://library.creativecow.net/video-tutorials/adobeaftereffects

also look at non-video tutorials, there are loads out there and often they are just as good as any video tutorial …

and I’m sure if you google “After Effects tutorials” you will be swamped with thousands of online tutorials …

    good luck
