  • thanks for the reply dave. Good idea to try motion tracking … my only thought with this is that orient along path would not work. I think that considering it is just a one off animation I might do it manually … I was just thinking there might have been a simple effect or expression that I was missing…

    thanks!

I have the Intuos 4 Medium and it works perfectly. I think way back in CS6 I had the crazy audio level thing … but certainly since CC it works 100%.

I travel a lot so the medium is just right … if I was at a permanent work station I’d go for a large as I also use it for AE and PS.

  • ok thanks … shame, I was hoping this was the magic fix! Actually I can live with the graphics glitches … but my machine does crash a lot when running PP… especially if I’m pushing it with 4k or something render heavy. Maybe this could be linked to the card getting hot and crashing…? M machine does qualify for the repair so I guess I may as well get it done… but I might not rush to it.

So, I guess a downgrade to Mavericks is on the cards. Such a pain though as I stuck it out on yosemite for a few weeks and quite like it (apart from the crashing).

    Thanks again for the advice

  • Has anyone had this repair done on their MBP Retina mid-2012?

I have zero problems when running Mavericks but with Yosemite I get all the graphics glitches, constant crashing, black screen in premiere, etc etc.

So I’m wondering if anyone with a mid-2012 MBP Retina has had this repair done and if they can comment on whether it fixes the issues? I live in West Africa with no Apple stores so it will be quite a mission for me to get the laptop to London to do this repair.

    Thanks!

great. super easy! and doing this I won’t lose any temporal resolution right? each rendered half frame will be taken from one of the full 50p frames?

no idea what you mean by that. 25 frames per second (PAL) is either interlaced (50 half fields) or progressive (25 whole fields)

yes, but 50i has a greater temporal resolution than 25p. ie You are capturing more moments in time per second so it is often regarded as a better format for sports or fast action shooting.

I’ve shot in 1080i50 and I just want to be sure that premiere isn’t destroying the original fields when I scale down to 576i. So regardless of whether it is uncompressed, h264 or any other codec I was just trying to find out about if the fields are retained.

I’ve since done a few tests and as far as I can tell the fields do remain intact.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response.

Playback is set to upper field first to match source footage (XDCAM 1080i50 35mbs) .

I’m not exporting to DVD. Just exporting either uncompressed or high bitrate h264. I just am not sure if I export it with a frame size of 720×576 and set fields to upper field first, is this a true resizing of the footage keeping all the interlacing intact. Or is it de-interlacing to do the scale, and then re-interlacing on the output?

Basically, I don’t want to lose the temporal resolution that I get from 50 fields/sec

    thanks!

  • Hey Mike,
Did you ever find a solution to this? It is also driving me crazy … i just did a big edit with lots of speed adjustments and now I can’t work with it at all in AE!

December 7, 2012 at 10:00 pm in reply to: Using the Blade tool on highlighted layers only…

thanks for the reply … will definitely request that …

the shortcut is a bit of a help, but not really speeding things up that much and doesn’t work with more than 9 tracks.

seems like such an obvious thing! I have a really big project with numerous layers and edits and it takes forever switching layers on and off just to blade them! I must say, as my first real edit in PP after coming from FCP its been a very slow and frustrating experience .. but I’m sure in time …

    thanks for the help

  • I’ve just come across this annoying problem as well … very frustrating as I like to shoot at 1920 and work in 1280 to give a bit more flexibility over framing … I’ll also put this in as a feature request ..

anyways, what I wanted to ask is if we use “scale to frame size” and then upscale in the motion tab (to say 110%) .. are we losing quality? or is PP smart enough to do the calculations for us?

    cheers
