  • Using the Blade tool on highlighted layers only…

    Hey all,
From a long time FCP/AE user .. first time PP user.

I’d like to be able to use the shortcut for razor (Cmd+K) to only cut the laters I have selected with the curser. Currently it does whichever layers are highlighted … as in, currently I need to click on the layer name (Video 1, Video 2, Video 3) separately to highlight them, do cmd+k to cut them, then if I want to cut layer 4 next i need to unhighlight 1, 2, 3, and the highlight 4 … etc etc …

What I’d like to do is just drag my curser over video 1,2,3 hit cmd+k .. drag my curser over the next tracks and hit cmd+k, etc etc etc

Does that make sense? Thanks in advance!

You can toggle tracks of and off with keyboard shortcut to edit faster.

thanks for the reply … will definitely request that …

the shortcut is a bit of a help, but not really speeding things up that much and doesn’t work with more than 9 tracks.

seems like such an obvious thing! I have a really big project with numerous layers and edits and it takes forever switching layers on and off just to blade them! I must say, as my first real edit in PP after coming from FCP its been a very slow and frustrating experience .. but I’m sure in time …

    thanks for the help

This isn’t a help in terms of keyboard shortcuts, but perhaps it’s a matter of changing working habits. Select the blade tool (or use keyboard shortcut to select blade tool), then click each clip you want to blade. If you have 9 clips to blade, that’s only 9 mouse clicks.

I feel your pain in switching from FCP. I’m just getting into it and finding so many little things that I miss. Almost want to start this project over in FCP.
