    Hi Guys,

I have a 3D layer which is quite large and is tilted so that it lies horizontally in the 3D space.
If I view the layer with half resolution, it appears fine and is in place. However when I view it at full resolution, a large chunk of it is missing, about 10% of the layer. If I remove all other layers from the comp, the problem still remains.

Does anyone know why this happens, and maybe a possible workaround for it? Its driving me mad, there is really no reason for it to be happening. Thanks.

I dont think it is a hardware problem, I have had no problems like this before, and have done some really crazy comps. This is simply a large 3D layer tilted in 3D space…

    Thanks

    Ross

is your rendering plug-in set to Advanced 3D? to check go to Composition Settings (Apple+ K), then it’s under the advanced tab…

Yes it is set to Advanced 3D.

I cant think what it could be, all other comps work fine, its just this one.

The problem occurs when the layer is closest to the camera, and then as it gradually moves away from the camera, it starts to regain the part of the image was was missing.

Any other ideas as to what it could be? Everything appears fine when at half resolution, it only looks wrong when at full resolution.

    Thanks

Nopes, there are no effects applied.
I managed to solve it slightly though. I halfed the dimensions of the layer, and then scaled it up to 200% and this at the moment seems to have solved things…very annoying though.
frustrating because the layer texture looks stretched…:-(
still if anyone has any other ideas of what it might be, then please let me know 🙂

    Thanks

If the 3D layer is a very large image or vector file, it might just be 32 bit after effects running out of memory. If the worst comes to the worst, you could try precomping it into several smaller tiled comps, then rebuilding them in 3D space.

The other thing I’d ask – do you have OpenGL preview enabled? If so, try switching to Adaptive Resolution instead (software rendering). It’s much more reliable generally, but you probably knew that!
