Shane, I wasn’t aware of a problem. Are you only seeing 4 clips in the import window instead of 10, and that’s how you know? Or are they not even showing up in the window? How frequent is the problem and is it easily detectable?

Yes. Also handle “gun and run.”

    What’s the subject matter?

I’m in Los Angeles and own/use the HVX200 and have a crew. And if your company is a DGA Signatory, I’m also a DGA Director.

Coicidentally, I fly out to Chicago every couple months for several days. So I could coordinate a trip out there with one of your shoots.

“Would like to start the transfer of the 2 cards…”

Remember that the cards are hot-swappable. When I’ve loaded one up, I just pop it into my G4 while I’m filling the 2nd one (I realize you don’t have slot in your MacBook Pro – I mention this so you don’t feel the need to get 4 cards).

I don’t use the Firestore, primarily because I’ve seen too many posts of problems. But I’ve seen your question come up here before. You might want to do a search over the past 6 weeks of posts to see if there was any resolution. Might also be good to search on Firestore in general, so you can anticipate any other issues.

Mics that you mount on your camera just aren’t going to be close enough for audio such as interviews – unless you like that empty room, hollow sound or you’re right in the person’s face 😉

The setup that I’ve got consists of a couple Sennheiser ew 100 G2 UHF Wireless Lavs and a Sennheiser MKH 416 Condenser Mic that I mount on a 9′ K-Tek boom pole. Works great and covers me for most anything.

  • If the 5.1.2 Academic version truly has the same functionality as the retail version, then his P2 import feature would be the same, since he already has that version installed. Either there is a difference or he’s mistaken about what he’s got.

  • If you’ve already got the Academic version of FCP 5.1.2 and that feature isn’t available, then there’s nothing more for you to get since 5.1.2 is the latest regular release as well.

There normally are certain features that aren’t available on Academic versions. Many Academic versions also add watermarks to avoid commercial distribution of products created with them. The Academic releases aren’t generally for commercial use – they’re so you can learn to use the product. Since it appears you’re working with a company (TreehouseHD) you might want to double check your license.

While I do make backup copies of my P2 Cards, I haven’t had any difficulty popping them into my PowerBook G4 and importing the clips I need into FCP. And FCP made a great improvement in its most recent version (5.1.2) where the P2 import feature has been given a whole new look – letting you select edit points and convert just what you need rather than entire clips. And remember when copying the footage to a hard drive to include the text file.

(I say all this for “Original’s” benefit, not Jeremy’s.)

Have not yet had to do it, but looked like I was going to, so I spoke to the people at Tyler rather than just relying on a helicopter pilot. No issues. And found a list of the pilots that use their gear.

Number is 818-989-4420. Also a great site: tylermount dot com.
