To answer your question about your client not needing HD, the P2 cards capture resolutions other than just HD which will be better than regular DV (for example DVPro50), which is the only resolution you can record onto the tape. So if only from that angle, your client will end up with a better picture.

When you record to tape with this camera, you’re recording using DV. There is no option for better resolution.

If I understand your question correctly, you cannot record HD to the cards, save it to your laptop and then transfer the HD resolution to the tape. The tape is just for DV, so you’d downgrade the picture dramatically.

I bought the Rode NTG-1. You just need to buy a separate connector. Works great. Fits right into the Panasonic mic holder.

Harry, that’s perfect. I just bought my camera last week. I’m REALLY surprised that the buttons are positioned the way they are. It would ONLY make a LITTLE sense if the screen flipped out 180 degrees and tilted upward – which it obviously doesn’t.

You’re in LA. What part? See if one of the forum posters here is near you. Maybe you could work out a deal with someone if they don’t edit – you provide some editing for someone in exchange for them to shoot some footage.

The obvious alternative is to just rent the camera for a day and play with it – but I’m assuming you don’t want to spend the funds. Although you can usually pay only a 1 day rental yet have the camera over an entire weekend.

“There is a reason why every manufacturer of storage for video uses Hitachi or Seagate drives in their arrays.”

    What about LaCie? The triple-interface?

    Thanks,

I agree with David Jones. Just literally put tape strips on the monitor. Go to Home Depot and get any “light adhesive” tape like the kind that are temporarily put on painted walls to mask more paint. They come off easily and don’t mar your monitor. That’s how I’ve always seen it done.
