I need to generate a custom Safe Action gradicule on a monitor, or more specifically, I need two adjustable vertical lines superimposed on the image. Does anyone know if the Panasonic LH1700W will allow you to do this? I have also been looking for a generator that would work in line with the monitor, but I cannot find anything that will take 720p Y/Pb/Pr in and out, only composite NTSC or HD-SDI. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Back in my day we used tape!

I agree with David Jones. Just literally put tape strips on the monitor. Go to Home Depot and get any “light adhesive” tape like the kind that are temporarily put on painted walls to mask more paint. They come off easily and don’t mar your monitor. That’s how I’ve always seen it done.

We actually need reference marks in the frame that show how the images will line up in the final display. The lines need to be near the middle of the image, and do not block the sides. Pin striping tape or a piece of string and some gaf tape will get the job done, but they are hard to adjust, hard to see in the dark, have parralex problems, are more than one pixel wide, and just don’t look that good in front of the client. All of the HD solutions I’ve found only work in SDI, so right now the string is looking like the winner.

    Thanks for the imput.

Yes. the 1700 generates safe area lines, with many options for percentages, letterbox, etc. but they are not individually customaizable…
