FCP does not support AAF, at all, without a 3rd party program like Automatic Duck. If you have AD already…

Offlining XDCAM proxies in Vegas and then exporting an AAF and then ruuning that through a (respectable!) product like Automatic Duck and then opening the translated project in FCP and trying to conform the proxy cutlist to full rez in FCP…seems like it might cause you some headaches. Maybe not…

Do you have to do it that way? Vegas can conform your XDCAM proxy cut project to full rez and print to XDCAM disc with no other app involved. If you HAVE to go back to FCP for some reason, consider conforming to full rez in Vegas and then export a file that FCP can open, like uncompressed QT, and do further treatments in FCP at that point. If you can’t print a master back to disc from FCP for some reason, send the file back to Vegas (7, which can master to all XDCAM formats over 1394 or FTP)

  • Everybody’s free to try whatever they want as they dial in a workflow…

I would focus on what appears to be the delivery format, so create a PAL 16:9 [interlaced] project, load the 25i (or is it p? no matter here) XDCAM HD footage into that project, and preview that out 1394 using the preview resolution of “preview/full”. When doing that, what framerate do you get in a no-fx situation (cuts only)? Should be a solid 25…

  • You will always have perfectly locked a/v sync at all times if you use Windows sencondary display for your video monitoring.

In the advanced menu of the deck there is a deck control setting (“interface select” or something similar) – and it sounds like it is currently set to 9-pin. You will need to change the deck interface to be “iLink” or “AVC”. Terms vary depending on the age of the deck.

  • Only the unmodified template will work for iPod 640 at this time. That’s the way it is for now, but thanks for explaining your needs, we’ll look at extending the output capabilities in a future revision.

AVCHD is not supported in Sony Vegas as of this writing. Support is planned in Spring 2007.

I don’t know what if anything will all you to edit these files at the point.

Here’s a way to hopefully fix this.

    Start> run> regedit

    Find:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Media Software\Vegas\7.0\Lang

    Open the file “ULangID”

Confirm the value field is “409”. If it isn’t, please change it to 409, save, restart Vegas.

Also: Are you running a Hebrew or Arabic OS?

A turnkey from Boxxtech.com is definitely worth evaluating. They’ve built tons of Decklink-equipped systems.

Vegas 6 has file reading support for SD XDCAM MXF files only- works ok within that set of constraints. If you want to continue using Vegas 6 you’ll have to come up with your own file management scheme to deal with similar clip names (copy to unique folder or rename…or something similar)

Vegas 7 (there’s a free fully-enabled 30-day trial) has an XDCAM viewer pane, proxy editing support, proxy conform, multichannel audio support, hi-performance HD support, master to disc support and a lot more. No problem with file naming- import the disc inside Vegas 7 and all is handled.

If you have invested in XDCAM hardware, Vegas 7 is definitely worth a close inspection. In addition to Sony marketing materials and app docs, here’s a 3rd party website that provides a good overview:
