Vegas 6 has file reading support for SD XDCAM MXF files only- works ok within that set of constraints. If you want to continue using Vegas 6 you’ll have to come up with your own file management scheme to deal with similar clip names (copy to unique folder or rename…or something similar)
Vegas 7 (there’s a free fully-enabled 30-day trial) has an XDCAM viewer pane, proxy editing support, proxy conform, multichannel audio support, hi-performance HD support, master to disc support and a lot more. No problem with file naming- import the disc inside Vegas 7 and all is handled.
If you have invested in XDCAM hardware, Vegas 7 is definitely worth a close inspection. In addition to Sony marketing materials and app docs, here’s a 3rd party website that provides a good overview:
