Ralph, when the icons disappear (it’s a well-documented Sony issue), simply use the Rescan Scripts button found in the Tools menu to restore them. Sort of a PITA, but between .Net and Sony…it’s still not a 100% showtime.

Are they popping green in the preview window too? Or merely showing green on the timeline? If they’re just showing green on the timeline, try reducing your graphics acceleration.

You may be encoding to the Xvid codec in the conversion process. You can’t use Xvid. You can use the DivX tool to convert the headers (takes mere seconds) of a number of files that Vegas can read. Vegas cannot read Xvid.

look for these things (apologies if Steve covered them, I’ve not read every one of the posts;
~Be sure no antivirus is running. Kill ALL background apps.
~If using an external USB drive, consider using Firewire instead.
~If rendering to MPEG, watch your CPU heat. This kills renders more often than you’d think.
~I can’t see the format you’re rendering to in the thread. Knowing this might help.
~kill video preview/drawing frames while rendering.These are all “first look” things when rendering fails.

Fusion won’t work with video files, and I haven’t had much luck running Sonar under it, so just running plain ole’ bootcamp. It works great.
large, continuous files (like video and audio) don’t work well under Parallels or Fusion.
Why are you set on running Vista 64 vs 32 anyway? You gain very little in the operational speed of these apps, and Vegas 8.1 (64bit) is not as feature-robust as the 32 bit version.Douglas Spotted Eagle

Sony allows for two installs, one on a laptop, one on a desktop (actually, it allows for two installs with the license in mind that only one person is using one copy at a time, vs two people using two copies on the same license).

Reduce the bitrate when you export it.
Sounds like you’re starting with a low bitrate file, and increasing it, if you’re starting with 1GB, not changing length, and ending with 2GB.Douglas Spotted Eagle

We’re very impressed with Topaz as well. Very nice product. it seems to work best with DV being upscaled, but doesn’t do tremendously better when the source is Beta SP. Seems like you’re finding the same.
