    Hello,
In earlier posts I might have mentioned how I did most of my video editing using Avid. Working with Vegas is being a lot of fun, but a little confusing at times. Anyway, I was just wondering how the following effects can be done with Vegas.

    01) Placing a fake widescreen effect. With Avid this could be done using the “mask” effect. I think that I have figured out how to do this with Vegas, by clicking the “Event Pan/crop” and changing the “height” size. Is this the only/fastest way to do it?

    02) Distorting an image by changing its size. I don’t mean making it smaller or bigger, but stretching it in order to distort it. With Vegas it looks like we need to do the same thing as before (clicking the “Event Pan/crop” and playing with it size). However, in the Source section, we must tell it NOT to maintain the aspect ratio. Is this the only way to do it?

    03) Create a “picture in picture” effect. With Avid there was an effect call “picture in picture”. Is there such thing in Vegas, or do you need to change the size of a clip and place another one underneath? This seems to be the way to do it, since I have not found a “picture in picture” option. Does this option exist in Vegas?

It would be great to know shortcuts to these effects. But I am just curious. The aforementioned ways to get it done are not a problem whatsoever.

    Thanks so much!

    2) remember, you can turn on 3D for the track, in the track header compositing modes, and distort the picture further, ie along the Z plane too.

(1)…To create a fake widescreen effect, you can select the
widescreen format in the project properties…then use
the pan/crop tool and right click and select “match output
    aspect”.

(2)…For distortion you can use the ‘track motion’ and manipulate
    as you wish.

(3)…place the video you want as pip in the timeline on top..
then use the same track motion to reduce its image size
and place it where you want it on the video that is below.

    Thanks, Adam!
I turned on the 3D for the track, but I got lost here: along the Z plane too.
I am sorry, but what can I do once the 3D has been turned on for the track? Where do I go?
    Thanks again,

    Jorge

Thanks a lot! Especially for #1. I would have never thought of that.
    This is great. Thanks again,

My New Vegas MS 9 Platinum should arrive shortly and I would like to know whether I can install on two computers. On my laptop in the office where I sometimes have a little time to learn how to use programs but most of my editing is done at night on my desktop at home (not connected to internet) As the Aussie dollar is falling rapidly (60 cents today) I don’t want to spend on two copies if I can help it.

Sony allows for two installs, one on a laptop, one on a desktop (actually, it allows for two installs with the license in mind that only one person is using one copy at a time, vs two people using two copies on the same license).
