  • where is your viewer/delivery vehicle?
MP4 is somewhat the standard, and best for places like YouTube, Vimeo, etc.
You can reduce resolution, quality, or both.
What is your target file size?

  • Anything higher than 3Mbps on my Xoom will stutter and occasionally freeze when playing out over HDMI or internal view.
I’m with John. Higher bitrate 720p is more reliable (thus far) for me than lower bitrate 1080

  • yes, I am, and yes…it’s fast (scary fast compared to other systems I’ve used). Preview of 18Mbps AVCHD and .mxf files is butter smooth.
I do not have the NVidia card, however.

I don’t know if your experience will be like mine, but Vegas 10 32 loves HDV and Vegas 10 64 does not.

  • The greater compression requires greater horsepower to decode, for one thing. Additionally, it may be the way the frames are sequenced.
Remember, Vegas is not a media player. It is an editor. It is designed as a tool that modifies frames. Therefore, it needs to buffer up more information. Higher vs lower compression ratios can cause issues.

  • Bitrate not withstanding, what kind of camera was used to acquire the content?
Also, are you rendering from interlaced to progressive?

you might try holding CTRL and SHIFT while Vegas is booting. It may be that something was corrupted. You might need to do a reinstall.
Upgrading to latest version (per Ralph’s suggestion) might be a good one.

Vegas will properly sync the audio at any framerate, even if you import 50i, 60i, or 30p to the 24p timeline.
