  • .mov file import… audio but no video!

Posted by Gilles Gagnon on April 4, 2011 at 7:24 pm

I’ve captured some footage off a Sony cam. Client used FCP to create .mov files from the footage and provided these.

When I import them in Vegas Pro 9, I get audio only. No video track is imported.

I can view the video and audio if I open the .mov file in VLC player.

    what gives?

    Thanks for any leads,

    Gilles

What version of QuickTime 7 do you have and what version of Vegas Pro 9? You’ll need at least Vegas Pro 9.0d to use a QuickTime version greater than 7.6.2.

That version of QT should be able to play the files.
What kind of Sony camera did the footage come from?
What does QuickTime player say about the video (Window – Show Movie Inspector)?

thanks for trying to help me fellows 🙂

    – Camera: Sony HDV 1080i mini DV

    – QT says:

    – checkbox for enable encoding using lecgacy codecs – is checked.

In QT, I get audio but a black screen.

Gilles, is there any chance of getting the original source footage?
It’s HDV which Vegas will load and edit very easily instead of having to jump through hoops like you are right now.

Something odd with that. HDV is normally 1440×1080. The duration is pretty short as well… is that 1.27 seconds correct?

I notice the clip’s title states 24fps yet the specs indicate 29.97. Is this 24p in a 60i wrapper (24p with pull down)?

Yes, Mike, I can get the original footage but it will delay the project.

It seems silly that I have a .mov file which will play with VLC player but will not import video in Vegas.

getting the original footage is my last resort. Am I at the last resort??? 🙂

yes, for this test clip 1.x seconds is correct. all my other footage is longer… and behaves in the same manner.

not sure about the settings reported. I didn’t do the FCP capture. The cam was set 30fps as far as I know.
