A-cut the cursing.
B-the higher the bitrate of the file as you upload it to youtube will generally cause it to look worse.
You say nothing about the content type, which would play a role. Youtube is going to recompress your footage during the xcode to Flash no matter what.
I’ve yet to see a 1280 x 720, 10mbps .mp4 video look bad on youtube, if the source is clean.Douglas Spotted Eagle

Not possible to render from low bitrate MP4 to mp4 without suffering loss, unfortunately….

you merely need the EX drivers, and VEgas will natively edit the mp4 files found in the BPAV folders, and on any reasonably fast ‘puter, they’ll edit like a hot knife on warm butter.
https://www.sony.com/xdcam will get you to the driver site. you don’t need the viewer, just the drivers.

Red Giant has about the only plug that works, and it doesn’t work in Vegas. It’s halfway decent, but overall, you’ll likely find Vegas does a very good job (although not as good as Red Giant) with what you’re inputting. However….VHS source to HD? Questionable at best, and expecting very much out of it is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Rendering mp4 in an AVI container to an MP4? That’s gotta be terrible.
MP4 doesn’t mean it’s standardized. Any number of decoders may or may not work. VLC will open about anything.
The easy answer is to say your camera is not supported, and quite possibly not supported by Premiere, either.There may be a third party conversion tool. There are “flavors” of MP4 that aren’t supported by all the NLE’s out there.

Select the track with the audio you don’t want, and hit the DELETE key.

Yep. Select the area you wish to create as a new clip, and then Tools/Render as new Track.
you can also create subclips, but they’re virtual subclips, different than some users expect their new clips to be.Douglas Spotted Eagle

when you installed 9d, did you do a complete clean install, or did you merely update?

In Vegas Movie, you’ll need to set the Normalization per event. In Vegas Pro, you can set Normalize levels with scripts.
