This would suggest one of two (or both) easy possibilities, and could be a few less easy causes.
Sounds like an interlaced source. If you have access to the source, I’d go there vs dealing with a ProRes conversion.
Can you double the copy, offset by half a frame, set top to 50% opacity and have that cancel the effect? If it’s screwed up in the conversion, this won’t fix the problem, but that’s one of the first things I’d try.
Why are you editing MP4 conversion? Might be a resolution issue too.

Render as an uncompressed AVI, 32 bit. Be sure to check the Alpha in the render dialog.

There are only two things I can think of that *might* work, and both are long shots.
A-set RAM to 0
B-Decrease your Video Acceleration for your video card.

theyre just reference number values in Vegas. In some tools, they have specific value, but in Vegas, they’re merey reference points, IIRC a conversation between me and one of the original engineers, beause I was hoping we’d start seeing greater control ala “Ultra” back in those days.

No, it doesn’t change the location, it merely changes the speed at which you see them. If you’re viewing in Draft mode (which often is less efficient for playback, BTW), then you’re likely seeing keys exactly where they should happen. In say…Best/full, your machine might be buffering or unable to smoothly pass that time marker.

This same question came up years ago comparing Vegas to other DAW’s, and the same answer was found. And I’m embarrassed to say I’d forgotten about the summing. Glad you figured it out.
If the two apps are using the same A>D, then they have to be recording the same, but the way the playback is set up…Douglas Spotted Eagle

Shouldn’t be a problem at all. I’m running V9Pro on a fairly old dual core, and also on a MacBook Pro 1.83Ghz.
No antivirus, background apps kept to a minimum. Runs great. Even with AVCHD in Preview/Auto mode.Douglas Spotted Eagle
