I’m having a problem with Vegas 9.0d hanging when opening projects.

It has previously been working fine, and I’ve been working on the same project for about a month.
If first started to hang when it seemed like I had to much media added to the project (about 100GB of AVCHD (Panasonic GH1) and MPEG4 (Sony WX1))
So I broke it into smaller section. (probably only 10GB each)
Seemed to fix the problem. I’ve got 3 sections done and on my 4th.
But lately it keeps hanging when opening existing projects. (even when I go back to previously completed sections)
It gets through 100% but then the media in the timeline usually says “media offline”
Occasionally it will start working, sometimes after a minute, sometimes after 15m. But most of the time it’s just frozen. I’ve left it overnight a few times to see if it would eventually start working, but no luck.

I tried the clearing cache method, but that didn’t help.
I tried going back to 9.0c, that didn’t help.

It also does eventually freeze during editing when it does decide to work.

Any ideas how to fix this?

    Thank You

when you installed 9d, did you do a complete clean install, or did you merely update?
I’ve seen a few issues with updates vs clean installs with some MPEG media.

originally I just uninstalled 9.0c and installed 9.0d
This seemed to work just fine for a month or so.

I recently did a fully clean un-install including cleaning out the registry to see if a new fresh install would fix things.
    It didn’t help, same problems.

I’ve also noticed that while vegas is running if I were to try and multitask with another program, even windows explorer, it immediately freezes.

I forgot to mention I’m running Vista x64
    computer: i7, 6GB RAM

Vegas starts no problem, and I can create new projects without issue.
But as soon as I open an existing project, it more often than not hangs…

I think I found the problem.

When I initially created the project I brought all my media in.
When I found it hanging I split off to smaller projects.
However each of those projects still retained the full list of Project Media.
When I used the “Clean Project Media” option all my issues went away

This issue in 9.0d has been killing me. Shooting Canon HV20 HDV and using Cineform’s Neo Scene and codec for 24p extraction.

What really hurt was that I was editing a film this weekend for the DC 48 Hour Film Project this weekend. Load times for my master project were so bad that overall consumed several hours and kept us from doing a lot of the work we wanted to in post-production (basics like sound mix and color correction, sadly).

Working again today, I found the following link from the Cineform forums:

    https://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/sonypictures.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4558

Even though this note refers to 9.0a, I replaced the avi DLL in my Vegas 64-bit 9.0d installation. Lo and behold, and fingers crossed, but the difference is night and day. Projects that were taking 20+ minutes to open, now open in one to two seconds. And far less memory usage (and no paging, which makes me suspect the bug in 9.0d is a runaway memory leak).

Hi, have you already solved the problem? I have the same one. It takes 10-30 mins waiting to open a project with V9 and also with V10.
My friend has much worse HW-computer and opens his projects in seconds!
Any final working advice welcome. Thanks.

Once I cleaned my project media I no longer had waiting issues…
I thought 9.0e fixed the loading issue? I haven’t installed it yet to test it out though
