My Kona 3 rocks and up and down converts. I have good word that within days the 2 gig ram limit will be history. The SATA card issue is due to be solved this week or early next with updated drivers for the CalDigit card. the speed increase is awesome and many more effectsplay in real time than on our previous Quad. As well, it’s the future and AJA will help solve most any issue, be it theirs or not. I think it’s safe now and safer as time goes on. I had to switch in the beginning of a feature and was quite nervouse but after a couple of days all was well.

Thanks Shane, what I figured. Got a new Quad with Kona 3 and this thing is amazing. I made a deal to exchange for a small “restocking” fee for the new Intel G5 if they come out within 90 days but I don’t know man, this thing is so solid and the first time I’ve been able to say that in years. I had a 1st generation Dual 2gig and it was problematic from day 1. Would you use the Kona to upconvert on output instead of rendering in FCP or is that asking for trouble?

Are you reffering to the render in FCP to upconvert or are you using a plug in? I have to do the same thing from the same format to deliver to film festivals for HDCam projection sources.

I too get the “not optimized for Final Cut” warning on my footage and all was brought in correctly I believe. I do not delete the duplicate frames when importing 24pn footage as there are no frames to drop. But alas, the footage edits just fine so far though we’re early in the edit of a feature length doc. I’m curious as well.

What do you mean “Dropped” into a sequence. Do you have some method of linking these seperated files together? I have to make individual edits and know of no short cut way to do this, do you?

It’s all about how FCP reads the flagged frames to drop in the pulldown process. How does iMovie do it and if this guys wasn’t doing 23.98 it’s moot. I know Focus is all over a solution. I’ve had it bite me badly!
