We 3D guys have to deliver several different file formats and a left and right eye HD master with bars and tone to EVERY 3D broadcaster. Used to be SR, I guess we could use the deck if the were tape anymore. Bigger question is that do you guys ever calibrate your monitor from your edit system bars? Sure is easy and smart the way it was….just saying.

My 2cents…
I’ve purchased several cards from Dave Pirinelli as someone mentioned above. He recently upgraded our older 285s for brand new ones at no charge. Very pleased with him and his service and whenever he comes up with updates etc. he lets us know right away. He let me use an ATI 5870 for eval recently with no deposit or anything and in the end I went back to the 285. Now with the software enabling the Cuda power to work on the new Westmere I have, all is good!

Just recently purchased a new 6-Core Westmere and my old HighPoint SAS/Sata raid controler won’t friggin’ work with the new MP designs. Nice right. We had just bought it to replace another HighPoint card that went bad after several years of brutal labor. The new cards to get are the Aceras and the Attos. I went with the Acera as it was available in town. Had to copy material off the existing raid and copy back onto the new one but speeds are nearing 985 MB/s. Using a iStorage 16 bay SAS Expander chassis but also works on an older 8 bay chassis with great speeds too. The Acera’s are the 1680 series and the 1880 series and the Atto is the R380.
Lots of raid experience if you need any questions answered.
Best,
Don Wilson

I just put together a 16 Bay SAS Expander iStorage unit with Areca 1680ix-12, increased the controller Ram to 2 gigs and this thing is topping speeds over 950 MB/s…new 6-core Westmere with 16 gigs ram. Chassis is very good build quality and Patrick at CI Design/iStorage is near AJA support in responsiveness. And listen to Bob about those LaCie dogs… And again he is correct about the internal drives. We put three 1.5TB Satas in each computer stripped together and get over 350 MB/s from them, perfect for most workflows. We’re pushing lots of 3D multicam and big fat 3D files and nary a cough on the iStorage…yet!
Now when the hell is Apple gonna catch up to the rest of us with an FCP update??

Hi Bob,
Old ProRez422 works just fine. I was given the project with most of the material already captured sans a few audience shots etc. Just finished a 3D concert film where we were “provided” a workflow by a vendor and it too was PR LT(right eye) and lots of the same issues there too, fiber to server drives. Were told by their “expert” that it was our project and not the workflow…NOT. Tried moving a song’s worth of footage to my internals and it had same problems. Walking lightly and turning off all unnecessary things to lower the processor demands. Did do the PR422 test with one song, worked find, and if I didn’t have to deliver so soon I’d recapture it all to avoid long stares at the second story ledge…
Cheers there in sunny Fla.

Jeremy, it’s the first line of the crash report, often says Video Pipe…
We’re finding the ProPes LT codec problematic. Tests with it vs others is showing it acts like the Red Proxy problems stated on the Cow. Sure wish we’d known about it before 60 hours of material was digitized…
Cheers,

I have always gotten this error regardless of the version. I’ve found that with long or complex timelines, no waveforms or thumbnails but large V1 and V2 track view this happens. I have always believed that the processors and GFX card spike momentarily and I now believe that to be true. Watch the Activity monitor in the CPU setting. It is does not appear to go over the limit but FCP does what it does because it wants to…the true meaning of a love hate relationship.
How’s the weather in Fla. Bob? How bout’ my Saints….Who Dat!!

Oh, I’ve been down the MFX dark path for years. It’s a love/hate thing for sure. Anyone any idea about the Media Manager crash with multiclips included?
