  • Flashed GTX 285? Dare I ask if they work?

Posted by Chris Hall on September 21, 2010 at 8:49 pm

As I said, has anyone tried a flashed GTX 285 with Resolve (EVGA model or other)? Tried to get my hands on a legitimate Apple Version this week only to find the local Pasadena reseller had sold his last one to someone else… alas. So my next route is ebay… and most of the 285’s there are flashed. Wondering if Resolve will play nicely with these guys, or if I’m just asking for trouble.

Yes, but also needs soldering bigger chip. Mine is working nice.

I got one and it works fine, I don’t really think there is anything different about the Mac specific version except the ROM.

If it was done well, it should work. The hardware is identical. The firmware requires a larger ROM chip which the flasher should have soldered on.

If those things were done, a flashed card becomes no different than the mac card. The mac wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

add one more to that list. My GTX was also originally over clocked by NVIDA at the factory for PC then flashed. Its about 3-4% faster then stock

Your website says you have DaVinci in your color suite. I’m in LA. Where’d you pick up a copy?

Seeing as the GTX285 for mac is nearly impossible to purchase, and its seems no new Cuda cards are coming to the mac..

anyone have a place to get flashed cards? Or instructions on how to do this?

Just search for “GTX285 mac” on ebay – you’ll be given a plethora of choices. I came up with a full page of results, all of them looking like they’re flashed.

These are the guys that make them regularly. They come out with new batches every few weeks.

I would expect to see new cards close to Jan 2011 considering the 5000 and 4000 series were updated & announced yesterday by NVidia

Thanks for all the feedback on this guys, really appreciate the input. Just snagged a flashed 285 from David Pirinelli on Ebay (thanks Illya) am picking it up from him in LA tommorrow. Will report back if all is well with these, when resolve finally gets here (which could take a while it seems according to Unitek in Pasadena, local reseller). Has anyone else got their software yet (that’s not a beta tester)?
