    Hi all,

Missed saying hi to Bob at the usual get togethers and sure Walter was stuck in a booth and beat. But oh I needed a Lost Wages trip..

Writing here to ask the ones who know best…

Second big concert in a row where I’m editing right eye or single stream ProRez LT 1080i/29.97 captured with LHi and playing on Kona 3 and the LHi system. One system older 4 processor 3x4gig/8ram/Kona 3 and other a brand new octo with LHi. Have smoking drives/arrays. Done this style a lot to but last two have been painful. We capture from HDCamSR the right eye or single stream in the PRLT codec and edit usually with a 9 UP multiclip. Wasn’t a problem until we jumped to the LT codec… I think, maybe coincidence. Get GREEN flickering in the canvas/viewer, things get funky fast and then the voodoo doll gets the poke. Get lots of “VideoPipe” and “KGCore” reports. Several others too.

Have gone to extremes…stripped down to GFX card/8800GT and Highpoint 2340 raid controller, trashed all and re-installed FCP and did the update download from support site, not software update. Could there be a similar problem with this codec like the one had with the Red proxies?

Killin’ my vibe and making impending delivery look like all-nighters (y’all laugh!). We crash 30 times a day sometimes recently.

Sorry to show up and whine. On the upside I got me a little project sports car and am tearing it apart, cleaning it like an OCD editor, putting it back together and it’s working gooooood.

    Thanks all,
    Don Wilson

    VideoPipe?

After some tests I did, I would say to not use the LT codec, something is not right about it. It crashes my FCP and uses more processing power than the other codecs.

It’s easy for me to say for you to recapture as 422 or Proxy, but I do not know how far along you’re into the gig…

Jeremy, it’s the first line of the crash report, often says Video Pipe…

We’re finding the ProPes LT codec problematic. Tests with it vs others is showing it acts like the Red Proxy problems stated on the Cow. Sure wish we’d known about it before 60 hours of material was digitized…

    Cheers,
    Don

Gee Don, if I was having problems with a codec (like LT or Proxy), I would have tested ANY other codec before I spent 60 hours digitizing. I feel your pain. The HDV Codec works fine, and while you state that your drive array is “smokin !”, do I trust your Highpoint card to perform a 9 camera shoot ? Absolutely not – so you have to redig at least a little material, and try another codec (like nice boring ProRes422, or even HDV) – just to see what happens. These days, with all the new issues, I ALWAYS assume that nothing is going to work, and am just happy when things DO work.

    Hi Bob,

Old ProRez422 works just fine. I was given the project with most of the material already captured sans a few audience shots etc. Just finished a 3D concert film where we were “provided” a workflow by a vendor and it too was PR LT(right eye) and lots of the same issues there too, fiber to server drives. Were told by their “expert” that it was our project and not the workflow…NOT. Tried moving a song’s worth of footage to my internals and it had same problems. Walking lightly and turning off all unnecessary things to lower the processor demands. Did do the PR422 test with one song, worked find, and if I didn’t have to deliver so soon I’d recapture it all to avoid long stares at the second story ledge…

    Cheers there in sunny Fla.

[Don Wilson] “often says Video Pipe… “

I’d be curious to see what that really says.
