Took your guys’ advise and got the Kona 3, Quad etc. Using the Io for Analog to SDI in to Kona to uprez to HD and it looks surprisingly good. I’ve got everyting working after finding the right combination of control panel settings et al. Question is……..shot DVCPro HD24P and 24PN to P2, Firetore and directly to FCP. Kona wants to be set at 23.98 for capture and 59.94 for proper monitoring to HD component in monitor. All lives happily together on the Kona 23.98 timeline.

Why? Almost don’t want to ruin a good thing but isn’t there a mis-match in frame rates here though ever so slight? Does it affect a possible film out. Do I leave the timeline set at Kona 23.98 or edit at DVCPro HD 24? Is the DVCPro 24 codec really 23.98?

Don, so glad we could help you out there! I was sending you the answer telepathically and I guess it finally worked. 🙂

Seriously, don’t you wish somebody would make up their mind and just call things what they are? 24 is 23.98 so why isn’t it just called 23.98? Because 24 sounds better and it’s three less keys on the keyboard. 🙂

just remember that 24 DOES EXIST, and the Sony CineAlta shoots at both 23.98 and 24 – and you will be screwed if you shoot in 24. You ain’t George Lucas.

and if you do not shoot it at 23.98 you will probably spend a whole bunch of cash fixing the audio in post….
