This is the new ATTO driver as of Friday. I spoke with ATTO as well and supposedly there is no limit to the amount of ram anymore.

    Jeremy,

I will go and update my profile next but I have migrated two systems to the Mac Pros. Good call. I know we’d talked about Mac Pro issues recently. The RAM passes the hardware test as that was my first thought. When working properly the system really speeds up with the extra memory I must say. As well, I’m still have the annoying crackle in the audio and have to stop and start playback until it goes away.

If we waited around for Apple to qualify usable gear we’d never make any new progress……………anyway, an update. Got the Behringer unit yesterday, booted the thing up in Logic Control and it worked immediately. It’s awesome but does make a bit of noise as the flying faders move around as the timeline scrolls and when they hit the limits of high or low they hit their physical stops. But, for 200 bucks it is a very welcome tool and last night I was able to mix at least four times faster that before.

Been on Free Run most of the time. If needed, I’ve got good ref, tri-level in fact. This issue just cropped up with the Universal Binary betas and releases. The support guys are looking into it and will come up with something I’m sure. I’ll give a call tomorrow. Just looking for others who’ve had the issue to try and eliminate the card as it’s my third. First was too early of a production run to work in the Mac Pro and we tried to eliminate a shut down issue with a couple of others which turned out to be driver related and now solved.

I have the 2405, it’s recent predecessor, and yes, it does all.

    Hea Gary,

You seem to have a handle on doing long-form stuff from our conversations over the years. I’m in the midst of a feature and had to jump to the Mac Pro as our Quad failed and the vendor swapped for no cost, but…the ram issue with ATTO has my hands somewhat tied. With the 2 gigs of ram I can use and yes, I use thumbnails in quite a few of the bins and often will use film strip mode as I’m a old film guy, what would you set the caches at? I saw your post yesterday and bumped them up and did notice a performance improvment, but still my OCD always want the optimum.

    Thanks Gary,

Rockin’. Did you get the one at Melrose Mac that was on sale? If so, I came within half a minute of getting it as it looked very cool! I call that place the 500 Dollar Store. And, did they do you right? I’d sure hope so!

In response to Gary’s post, ATTO states that 2.5 gigs is their current limit on the Mac Pro right now, and is frustrating since AJA have figured it out. I use the UL5D and Kona 3 and tried 4 gigs and got system wide freezes often. Since carving down to 2 gig things are very solid though I notice the difference in thumbnail drawing and some effects. I’ve tried to get a best guess from ATTO and their phone support people aren’t sure about anyting and asked me questions for their education.

Again, Bob’s right. I use the Io and Kona 3 all day everyday together and it rocks. Get the newest drivers from the website as Bob suggested. I run the Io via it’s control panel and the Kona via FCP for updonverting etc. I too run the Mac Pros and the growing pains are starting to fade.
