You’re almost there. If you have the offline in the Primary storyline, then edit in a short clip that’s just close but not exact to somewhere in the middle of the underlying clip. Set it to half opacity and then, with the upper clip selected, press the comma and period keys to slide the connected clip until you see a match. Once the match is made, expand the in and out of the upper clip as needed and restore it to full opacity. That’s how I would do it even if I had dual view screens but one on top of the other is still better than comparing them side-by-side.

Thanks for the response. Not having an art department I’ve been looking for ways to do a web page ‘live’, meaning, that a URL types on as we pedestal down the page or some page animation takes place. Like you see in some commercials.
You and your wife sound much like my wife and I. I’ve been a freelance network news cameraman for many years and I was assigned to her to shoot a story here in Dallas when she worked on the Today Show at NBC in New York. It was love at first sight and she left the Today Show to marry me and live in Texas. We were married six months later at 13th and Broadway in New York City and, from time to time, we’ve worked as a team as she produced spots that I shot and/or edited.

Very nice.
Did you do the graphics of the web page? If so, workflow please.

Found the problem with help from T. Payton of Albuquerque.
The problem was that I started the custom resolution in the Browser using a still picture. Because the timeline sets itself on the first element, there was no framerate set. Sure, the size was right, but no sound would export from that timeline.
Using T. Payton’s example (in a tutorial found here on CreativeCow.net) I created a Motion Project of the size and framerate I needed and used that as my first element. From there I pasted in more than 23 minutes of material already edited in my original Browser timeline. I then eliminated the first clip that had set the size and the framerate.
The project exported just fine. Right size and with sound.
You may be asking why I didn’t start with a video clip from the edit. That was not possible because I was re-creating a PowerPoint presentation and all I had was the slides (which determined the size of the project) and I embedded standard 16×9 video within the slides sized down.
Many thanks to T. Payton for helping me work this out.

No one is offering to enlighten.
I read/viewed two tutorials about editing in a timeline in the browser vs. editing in a Project and how you can get any frame size you want. One tutorial by Alex of Alex4D fame and the other by T. Payton of Albuquerque. Both included verbiage that implied you can edit anything in that Browser timeline (right-click on a clip in the Browser and Open in Timeline) but NEITHER alerted the reader/viewer that while you can put sound IN you can’t get it OUT. As a result, I did a complicated 23-minute project at 1920×1440 to mimic the look of a PowerPoint presentation that included embedded video with sound and promised the client that the final frame size would be the same. Now I’m forced to deliver it in 16×9 with pillars instead of 4×3 high-res clean.
I already tried putting the silent 4×3 version into FCP7 and added an audio-only output from putting the project into a 16×9 project, but of course they don’t sync. You can stretch the video in FCP7 but not the audio but that wouldn’t look good.
There is a way, I’m sure, to eventually match the two and deliver what I promised but it’s been hours of wasted time.

Great post Mark M. I’m going to try that.
Now, I’ve discovered another limitation of MultiCam clips; it doesn’t appear to process video the same as it would if the same clips were outside the MC clip.
For example, I’ve got a three camera MC clip. The producer asked me to scale up the wide shot to crop out some cables at the edge of the frame. I scaled the shot maybe 10%. On XDCAM footage shot with a high-end Sony XDCAM disc camera at 1920×1080 a 10% scale shouldn’t visibly soften the shot. But in the MC clip, the shot is very soft. Today I’ll take that shot and copy it to be outside the MC clip to see if that would render to be sharper. It should.

I worked around the problem by putting the multiclip down, then putting the playhead at the beginning and selected audio only and then selected one of my two audio tracks.
I then copied the MC clip and pasted it as connected in sync with the first MC clip and selected audio only at the other audio track.
That gave me multiple audio tracks enabled at the same time.
Then, in practice, only the upper MC clip would edit in the Angle View, which was fine by me. In fact, it insured that I wasn’t accidentally editing the lower MC clip.
The one problem is when i have to delete a section of the MC clip. Simply setting an IN and OUT and hitting ripple delete only affects the lower MC clip. My workaround is to Blade (with snapping on) the both MC clips along the playhead line at the beginning and end of the area I need to delete. Then I select the bladed clips and Ripple Delete and that kept the two MC clips in sync. It’s a pain and its more tricky if you’re doing that method at the very beginning of the clips.
Add to my wish list for FCPX improvements is the ability to enable more than one audio track at a time in a MC Angle Viewer.

Thanks for the try Geoff but without common sound the clips won’t synchronize. All you hear on one clip is the host and all you hear on the other clip is the guest. In fact, the Multicam would not sync well without me adding a start marker and even then I had to go in and manually fine-tune the synch between the clips. But, having done the fine-tuning in a MultiCam clip I sure would like to enable two or more audio tracks at the same time.
