Thanks for this…done both and no difference…must be something this end surely but cannot think what…trying to grab the audio bar in the timeline is hideously fiddly…seems to respond better if I first try and move it up with mouse and then drop it but nonetheless costing me a lot of time at the moment.

Any other offers people?

Do other shortcuts using the control key work? Like controls-s to expand audio/video? Are you using the minus and plus keys on the number pad? Because they don’t work on a standard apple keyboard, I have to use the ones next to the delete key.

I like this software because I can edit and organize much more quickly then I could in FCP7 or Premiere. But it took me a few months to get used to all the keyboard shortcuts and to develop organizational methods. I also mostly enjoy the way Motion works as a companion.

Try this. Open your System Preferences. Go to Keyboard and UN-Check “Use all f1, f2 keys as standard function keys.

Close the panels and see if that helps.

Seems to me that I had to do this back when I started using X in order to get all the keyboard combinations built into it to work properly.

thanks for your support…done the already…still sure I am being dumb but the most annoying feature so far (having got to grips with magnetic timelineO is inability to grab that audio bar without selecting clip…I was almost converted.

I used to have that audio problem too. It was hard to select. I’d always get the clip. But it NEVER happens anymore. I’d forgotten all about it. Either I learned what it wanted or 10.0.5 fixed it, or I quit trying to adjust audio with the clip so small. Now I use the tiniest filmstrip with audio view.

I can’t find that command. That shortcut (ctrl+option+s) isn’t mapped to anything. There is a expand all audio/video. Is that what you’re talking about? Or ctrl+s which is expand audio video. But audio itself doesn’t expand as there’s no video associated with it. Expanding is a term that refers to expanding a combined video/audio clip.

FWIW, I mapped shift+E to expand all audio/video clips. And mapped option+E to expand just audio/video with splits. I also mapped shift+cmd+E to collapse all clips.

So, finally, now I can open it up with a shortcut, and then collapse it with a shortcut.

Now they need to expand track (clip) size with a shortcut. Or at least make it mappable. I can’t see that anywhere.
