  • Animating a mask on a motion path

I have a “squiggly line” from Illustrator that needs to animate from left to right. I drew a motion path that matches it, but I’m not quite sure how to do it.

I know you can do this in After Effects (see this tutorial here on creative cow). Can you do it in Motion?

    Thanks,
    Joe

Update: I just animated a freehand bezier curve (which works), but I still wonder if the motion path mask thing could still work…

Well yeah, just like in AE you can do reveals by animating Motion’s masks over time.

But an easier method is to use the Write-On behavior: Add Behavior>Shapes>Write On

And you can also use the Sequence Paint behavior if your using Motion 3’s new Paint Strokes feature.

And there’s even a script for converting Illustrator shapes to Motion shapes: https://www.motionsmarts.com/downloads.html 🙂

The MotionSmarts site no longer exists because it was hosted on MobileMe.

Can someone post that script OR list the steps it accomplished so I can try to replicate it?
