John thanks so much for your help and initially izotope looks like a great help. When you render in Vegas do you create MP3 files or what extension do you use before you then open the finished file in Izotope rx? I have been experimenting with .avi files (naturally no video attached) and MP3. Are some extensions better than the other?

I have only a trial version so unfortunately cannot save my work using the programs de-noiser. In the attached file I wanted to get rid of camera hum especially at the beginning of the file. It would be fantastic to be able to save my work and drop it next to the video file to see if this will do a good job. Hearing is one thing marrying it to the video is another. If it does a good job I have lots of audio clean-up I would need to do.

Anyone want to give this one a go and send the de-noise result back to me? Would be much appreciated!

    Thanks John

Do you think that iZotope RX can get rid of this annoying hum? I used switches set to normal funtion so that it makes it a substantially louder and more obvious. Also when you use a noise reducer software what about the idea of first editing the audio using the normal function in switches and then turning it off when you drop it into its home next to the video track.

Here is my file in need of help from izotope RX here:

    Sounds Good John:

Now how on earth does one locate a tool called [Sys] 60 Hz hum notch using four stacked preset? Is it located in the FX section?
    Very baffled.

Theo please accept my apologies for not replying much earlier. I was under a deadline to finish up a demo of the project and get it off to the reviewers. I know that youtube might not be the best platform to provide you the opportunity to listen to the unwanted humm in my footage but in case it helps here goes: Its not a long file and if you turn up the volume you should hear the problem. I used the switches/normal command in Vegas in the audio track to accentuate the problem.
Naturally for a nature film its super important to keep bird calls and flies buzzing in the film… I just want to eliminate the hum.

That looks definitely better Mike. Okay I am mathmatically challenged I guess. How do I translate the frame size numbers 1440 x 960 into font size (you did mean font size when you said text size right)?
Or perhaps I missed something very important.

Also can I ask what font you were using? I used Verdana Humana 95. That of course would make things a bit different. I used Verdana Humana because it is a serif font and I thought it jazzed things up a bit.

    Okay Mike:

Should I mail you your most helpful person of the month award or would you like it hand delivered? For a person just working their way through the basics of DVD Arch this is a terrific help! I love the simple yet elegant menu DVD Arch creates using these few steps! Thanks a great deal Mike!

  • Hmm… great impput folks…

I was thinking that perhaps the green didnt stand out enough for the viewer to see the geographic map and information. So it appears that that is not the case. I love the suggestion of different colors for different habitat. So you guys have no trouble it seems viewing the different colors. Seems like bright orange got no votes and blue didnt either. This is very helpful guys! Would love more imput if you have any for me.

    Cheers!

February 15, 2010 at 3:09 am in reply to: Volume levels my responsibility or my Narrators?

Great suggestion Kevin. First of all hats off to the guys here that pushed and shoved me unwillingly into learning about volume envelopes. New Territory and now I am using them! When I used the volume envelope it appeared to me that the narration audio clip was nice and crisp and the narrator didnt lose any presence. As opposed to when I simply reduced the height of the volume/audio event by making it smaller/shorter myself by hand.

Okay now that I used an envelope to govern the audio levels and keep them out of the red I noticed something. I had unwittingly preset the volume level knob previously to something that was simply comfortable to listen to. If I raise the master volume knob now to full volume… even with the audio envelope in place I go back to levels into the red.

Sorry not as succinct a question as I had envisioned but it boils down to this. Is there a professional benchmark/standard place to keep the master volume level before one even inserts audio envelopes and starts working with that?

Here is another screen shot to show you folks where I normally have the volume level.

    Thanks!
