For my documentary on parrots of Australia it was important to show where each species lives. So I created some range maps in photoshop. I havent a clue to be honest which color schemes should work. Vegas tends to bleed a bit of the colors when I watch the footage on tv.

    Here are the colors:
    1.Orange
    2.Red
    3.Green
    4.Blue
    5.Yellow

Is it okay to ask for some folks to tell me their favorites? This is an important feature of the film and I would like to use the best choice for esthetic reasons and to make the film look as professional as possible.

Thanks and let me know which one is your choice.

Don, I’m no graphics expert but I like the yellow the best.
As far as your colours bleeding, look at them on the vectorscope.
Your saturation values should not go past the outermost circle (100%) on this display and some colours will work better if the level is even lower.
Drop the SMPTE bars test pattern on your timeline and you’ll see what I mean.
For example, red is only 180-16-16 and this 180 number is repeated for all the colours on this test pattern.

My vote is for the green. Green best describes the land and grass. Blue on the other hand denotes water.

I agree with Roger: I would use the green on normal land, the yellow in the desert and light blue for water areas.

    Hmm… great impput folks…

I was thinking that perhaps the green didnt stand out enough for the viewer to see the geographic map and information. So it appears that that is not the case. I love the suggestion of different colors for different habitat. So you guys have no trouble it seems viewing the different colors. Seems like bright orange got no votes and blue didnt either. This is very helpful guys! Would love more imput if you have any for me.

    Cheers!

    Don
