Hi John: I chose the setting Lenient 7.5 setup and applied it to the entire video track. Here is what it looked like in the wafeform monitor. Is this still too unsafe? By the way the Map on the video is going to be about only 20 percent of this size when completed. I am wondering if that will change the broadcast safe settings… hmm..
Thanks for you help! New territory for me for sure and one I need to learn.

Hi John:
I was studying the waveform monitor for video safe colors while a short clip was playing. I was noticing that the video did not indicate that it was outside of the target range as far as colors were concerned.
My question is this one: As long as the indicator shows that my colors didnt go outside of the target (for lack of better words) does that mean that things are safe? Please refer to screen print..
Thanks very much

Thanks John:
Will the quality of my footage decrease with the “clamping down” of the broadcast color safe mode? Thanks

Thanks John:
Does this mean if I use the broadcast safe setting that inserted photos from photoshop will also be broadcast safe? Or do I have to treat inserted images individually and separately? I was thinking about my Australian maps which have a great deal of white in them.
thanks again for your help here!

Hi John:
This so far is an enigma to me. I will explain using screen shots as I think Mike here said a picture is worth 1000 words. First to make sure I was actually activating the correct button in Track FX Output I decided to apply the FX using the setting levels. For this experiment I chose gamma level to be absolutely dreadful to see if it would affect all of my events in the timeline.

To reassure myself that not just one but all of the events were afforded the same dreadful gamma level I took a look at some other events
And I was definitely reassured by the other awful looking events that once I clicked the FX and set it in the master Output FX button it affects everything. Now to apply the Broadcast colors correcting tool and use the setting Lenient 7.5

Okay looks good… I dont see any difference in anything but I am thinking maybe its a miracle but perhaps all of my events are broadcast safe!I then simply without deselcting or X ing out the Broadcast Colors FX setting dropped the display box back into the timeline. When I did the same thing to the Levels/gamma setting, at any point I could click on the Track FX icon and see that yes indeed my gamma setting was still holding (as awful as it was)
I tried that with the Broadcast Colors FX and as you can see it has now reverted back to the Preset called “Untitled” without my doing anything. Where is my setting Lenient 7.5 ?…. maddening.

Now obviously there is a save option here. So thinking that was the problem I created a new Preset called Lenient 7.5 Setup1. Even that is not retained at all. Things simply go back to the default setting Untitled. I am obviously missing some command that says save and hold my preset. Or.. I have a defective copy of Sony Vegas Pro. Mystified…
Thanks for your imput

Hi John:
Okay I went in and chose a setting. I chose the setting Lenient 7.5 setup. Since I dont know what to look for I simply had a quick look at the horizonatal adjustment bars for the settings but didnt alter anything. What should I pay attention to here? What about the
Composite Min value of -20. I am not sure what to look for if I am doing something illegal color wise. Because I went in and selected Lenient 7.5 setup value does this mean my project is now okay? Also does this reflect the values for this clip only or for the whole project on my timeline? Thanks and I am sure is obvious this is new technilogical territory for me. Please see the attached screenie, and of course how do I properly thank you guys for your valuable time? Much appreciated!

Hi John:
I hope I did this correctly. I went into Vegas Fx and simply clicked on Broadcast colors. The default box was already checked for me for the setting of 7.5. Is that all there is to it for this clip? Is it now broadcast safe? I played the clip and looked at it on my computer monitor. I didnt notice any visible change as to the way it was before.. ie. color density or quality etc. I did not see an icon or any thing that I could identify as the master video bus (above the preview window as you mentioned)… What am I missing… hmm…
Okay here is a screenie to show what I did.

Thanks and it would be fantastic if all I had to do was go into FX and keep setting for Broadcast colors for each clip. Can it be this easy to prepare my footage for Broadcast safe colors?
Thanks very much!

Hmm…
Seems like a fine line between making the image too dark so that you cannot see the red cheek patches on the cockatoo and having the body color too light. I adjusted slightly. Here it is.. hows this?

Many thanks Ian, John, Steve, and Mike:
I used levels and color corrector and am quite pleased with the result. Naturally I will need to run some tests on a television monitor rather than computer display but it looks good I think. What do you folks think? Below some screenies to show what I did.
