Hey guys, just wanted to share the rest of my story with you.
I really hate when threads are left open ended.

All in all, it is a success story.
    I am now running MC 12.1.5 on a G4 with 10.2.8
All is good and stable with no crashes or conflicts.
It’s like dialing the way-back machine to 2003 and editing.

I managed to get the software from the Avid download site and also looked up the version compatibility for all of my hardware.
Can’t say it was a fast or easy process, but it is working well.
However, I still have the original OS9 drive with MC installed sitting on a shelf in the event of a major meltdown. Gotta have a backup plan.

Thanks for the advice and help guys.

BTW- Grin, it’s okay to play with fire as long as you have a bucket of water nearby 😉

Wow, Bob! Some bold statements made here in the Avid forum.
While I don’t disagree with you, I can’t say I’d have the stones to put it out there in the Avid forum 😉

I get what you both are saying, and that is ultimately my backup plan. As I said, everything works fine right now, so I don’t NEED to upgrade.
But I was just hoping that someone knew of an “upgrade” path that might help my efforts.

I hope you guys realize that I will not be testing any upgrades without first backing up the current drive. That way I can always go back to the current configuration and enjoy my OS9 system. I’m no noob as far as Avid is concerned, and I know to be protected every step of the way.

    thanks for the input.

Before you install on your personal PC, make sure that you deauthorize any machines at work that used that SN.

Then you will be able to install and register to your machine. If you attempt to install without deauthorizing the prior machine, you will get an error stating that you have reached your maximum installations for that SN.

There will be a phone option on that error page and you can just call the phone number and they will be able to deauthorize the other computer and make yours legit.

    Good luck.

Wow, I looked at that document this morning, but it was before the comment about no PPC support was added. Thanks for the response.

In addition to the above problem.
If I import the P2 files on one of our laptops and then try to open the saved project on a desktop machine, the files go offline.

Then when I try to re-link the MXF file, I get an error saying “file not supported. AE does not support files of “@@@@” type.”

    Sounds kinda strange.

    ideas?

Your deck is shuttling/rewinding faster than the decklink can keep up.
Knock your Shuttle Max and FF/REW Max settings on the HD1400.

Saving and loading through the render settings window is exactly what I am doing right now.

I am trying to avoid having to open AE and get into the render queue on each individual machine. I’d like to be able to edit these settings from the finder level.

My farm software references the settings for each machine, they are local to the individual machine and not project specific.

This is why each machine’s render settings need to be identical. So for ease of installation, I would like to be able to just copy a resource file (for example) to each of my render machines that contains all of my presets.

    Thanks for the link.

I discovered the FCP to AE script thingy a while ago too. GREAT application, and that is exactly the same thing that I need for Avid. Just a simple cuts-only importer.

On a related note, the OMF export is gone in AE8 also.

What’s up? Does Wes have some incriminating photos of Adobe execs or something?
