Are you running iTunes 6.0.2? I f so, drag the program to the trash but DON’T empty the trash. Restart and run Disk Utility. Repair permissions and then drag iTunes back out of the trash and use as usual.

What kind of camera are you using? Perhaps you could actually do the shot for real. Have the actual footage playing on a television while you record the shot. Just a thought. If you had a camera that has a clear scan feature (like a GL2 or XL2) you could match the television scan rate and record without a rolling TV screen.

A quick thing you could try: Go to the render menu and choose: render all>mixdown. This will create an invisible file of all your audio tracks. Then try outputting to tape if that’s what you’re trying to do. Makes a difference. If you make any audio changes after using this command the mixdown track will be automatically deleted and you’ll have to use the command again.
If you’re still having trouble then export a QT movie of your timeline and then import it into a new empty track in a new project. Then use the print to video command: or hit record on your camera/deck and hit play for the timline. That should do it.

If you haven’t done so already, try trashing the preference files for final Cut Pro. Here’s how to do it right and why it needs to be done, occasionally:

Run the program DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory on the LaCie drive, which will allow FCP to have proper access to your video files.
You didn’t mention if you’ve always had trouble capturing big files to your external LaCie, and little ones capture without issue. Make sure your LaCie drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended. I’m sure you know about that sort of thing already but I’m just trying to cover the basics.
Make sure you don’t have any virus protection software running in the background while you’re trying to capture. This will interfere with the capture process.

You’re correct in asssumiing that the less expensive camcorders have only one imaging chip, although this technology is improving all the time. Consider the new Sony HDV one chip camera called the HVR-A1U. Impressive little 1080i HD camcorder for the money.
Traditionally, going to a 3 chip video camera will give you a much better image than with just one chip. The light entering the lens of a 3 chip camera is split into the 3 primary colours: red, green and blue. The colours are then recombined before the image is recorded. The resulting image is cleaner, sharper and is more saturated (richer colour).
The second big reason for stepping up to a 3 chip camcorder is better optics. The lens will be of a higher quality and it will admit more light because it’s usually much wider than the lens of a small 1 chip camcorder. Get used to saying this to people about your new 3 chip camcorder: “It’s all about the glass.”

If you have Compressor you should be able to at least encode an MPEG2 file without having DVDSP. I just don’t know if you can get Compressor without having to buy DVDSP. QT 7 Pro will allow you to play back MPEG2 files but I can’t see an MPEG2 export component within Quicktime. The closest thing is MPEG4, but that’s not what you want.

From what I’ve been able to learn from others here regarding upconverting to a different (less compressed) codec is that graphics will indeed benefit but the actual DV video won’t.

Would an LCD television’s auto-scale toggle be known as anything else? I would like to try your recommendation on my own BenQ 26″ but I can’t see anything in the on-screen menus that looks similar.
