I was wondering how to make a clip look like its being played through a tv, where it has the scanlines going across, but where it looks like the camera lense is really close to the screen, if you have ever seen the intro to the TV show malcolm in the middle they use the same kind of effect in a bunch of the shots. Thanks

As far as I can tell, Malcom in the Middle is actually shot off the screen. That’s the easiest way to do it. No rendering needed.

What kind of camera are you using? Perhaps you could actually do the shot for real. Have the actual footage playing on a television while you record the shot. Just a thought. If you had a camera that has a clear scan feature (like a GL2 or XL2) you could match the television scan rate and record without a rolling TV screen.

Malcolm in d middle was shot on HDCAM using F900 cameras.

A simple techinque is to reshoot a monitor with the video being played back on screen.

You can reframe, snap zoom etc for more creative options.
