IMO shoot the DVX 100 24p or 30p if NTSC .. shoot 25p if PAL ..
you don’t have the budget for digibeta …so you have a digibeta deck .. do you have a way to get it into your computer ? digbeta files are quite large and will take alot of CPU to play .. a digibeta camera rental will use 80% of your budget …

and how much is L500 is usa $$ = i’m guessing under $1000 us

  • the small sony shoots 4:2:0 color space and many will debate you over it being less then 4:1:1 ..
decent audio ?? well if you’re recording live music then it’s not going to suit your needs but if it’s just the sound that is in artist studio or her speaking then it will do the job .. just get a external good mic ..
here in US the HC1 is 1550 at B&H and i the A1u is around 2499 then apply 500 rebate = 1999 = alot of bang for your $$$ … pan it as if you were shooting film and it should be fine .. the so called motion artifacts is a bit overstated by most on these boards that have NEVER used a HDV or seen HDV on a 20+ft screen …

how were the clips captured ?
if it was beta/digibeta or anything captured using decklink then you would need to go to decklink and download the blackmagic codec …

if it was captured on a Avid then you would go to avid to download their free codec ..

if it was shot on DV25 then it should play unless somebody rendered it using a none standard codec ?

capuring thru V6 is AVI only – no choice to capture QT ..and as far as i know it is preset bit rate
same as premiere -capture thru premiere on pc = AVI ..
when you install BM codec’s on PC it installs both QT & avi
i’ve been told that capturing thru decklinks capture utility you can capture as QT..

i too have the pioneer and it has NEVER been able to burn a DL or any + dvd single layer using DVDa3c .. it burns – DVD’s all the time…
on DL it too reaches 99% complete but cannot burn the lead out..
i did burn a DL using a Nec DL burner with DVDa3b and when i upgraded to DVDa3c it no longer can burn DL on the NEC .. if you go over to sony forums you’ll find many ( well actually i haven’t heard of anybody burning a DL on pioneer 100/110/610 using DVDA3) with same story.

January 15, 2006 at 8:18 pm in reply to: PC reading mac hard drive ?

the transfer house only offers 2 choices on their loaned hard drives either you take NTSF with avi or HFS with mov … files in the 300gig + area …

the software solutions looks like the best for this time ..

for backup – i do know a production house that does have mac & pc on their network. when i transfer to digibeta i pc render as mov and they transfer the mov files from NTSF drive over their network to Mac/decklink to transfer to tape !

  • Alan Gordon use to rent ?? forgt the name of the rig – maybe they still have em for rent … you’ll have to ask about requirements
