Vegas 6 can create a AAF file ( a EDL on steroids- if i remember correctly Avid is the creator of AAF ) … look at the specs of avid express pro to see if it can read AAF files ??

keep your vegas TL simple !!! it is not going to export 14 layers of compositing and avid takes in in correctly etc .. simple video tracks with sync audio ( do not split the channels) , simple transitions – i do straight cuts … make sure all media is orginal ( not a video where you have rendered sections in it ) unless the avid has access to those files …

“Once motion gets into the equation then HDV is a thumbs down”

you have to judge that yourself !! what is thumbs up/down to one person could be the opposite for another … HDV camera’s are being used already in broadcast …

all the camera’s have strengths- weakness .. you have to look at ALL area’s of the camera that are important to you PLUS you have to look at the workflow of each camera TODAY not what might be out next year for it …

when 24p 1st came out many were complaining about the not smooth ( strobbing) panning/tilting/motion of 24p ..WHY ? because most of the complainers had been shooting 60i and they compared 60i split screen with 24p = 60i is smoother .. now for the persons that came from a FILM background they said what strobbing??…

January 28, 2006 at 4:39 pm in reply to: Help please I need to upgrade….but what?

1 minute clip at 632mgs ? need more info

if it was a DV clip (your hand size camera type file) then you rendered out as uncompressed ? if it was a HDV clip then you rendered out as uncompressed 4:2:2..
a uncompressed clip that size will bog down most systems …

if you wanted uncompressed then make sure you choose SONY YUV codec and then it should play in Vegas TL normal speed on you both your systems ( provided AMD is not the slower sempron or equal to celeron ) ..

if you didn’t want uncompressed then make sure you choose DV NTSC template for windows AVI .. if QT then make sure you click on CUSTOM ( render as) -Video – then choose DV under VIDEO FORMAT

you test the camera’s with real clips and you’ll find all the camera’s have good images … now you need to get to what you want/need and take into account projects and workflow .. in the end you’ll find there is No ONE camera that does it all and there is no camera that knocks out the others …
i assume you’ve all read the http://www.DV.com write up on the 4 hand size HD’s, varicam, & cinealta ?? all good camera’s .. allot of bang for your $$$$ on the hand size HD camera’s.

  • is the jpg from the rendered output or just a snap shot from TL/software … if looks like a low res frame … 4:1:1 color space does have stair stepping on titles but it should NOT be that bad …

you could change the properties and try rendering titles out as progressive …

also you could render them out as uncompressed ( 4:4:4) and they will be PERFECT – if you do get the stair stepping then it’s something with the software …

once you render out uncompressed then drop them in TL for final render with rest of project.

i always watch projects like this 1st without audio .. in general i think it works and i like it ( no audio)

with AUDIO = do you have permission for to use music ?
i really don’t think one should be posting a LINK for the public to view a piece that is using music that is not cleared. i’m sure they’ll enjoy viewing it in their home ( private use) ..
