February 16, 2006 at 5:27 pm in reply to: Help, my burnt DVDA project won’t play on dvd player!

awhile back i put 4-6 hrs on DVD .. for a few of the sections i had a 1,500,000 data rate , some sections 2,200,000 data rate .. i found that on some DVD players the 1,500,000 sections would NOT play. i believe the min recommended DVD data rate is 2,500,000.. rates below that fall into SVCD-VCD formats …

are all your viewing monitors set up to a standard ( SMPTE color bars, color bars) ??

are the orginal tapes PAL ?

are you creating the mepg in DVDA or Vegas ?

in Vegas when you “render as” then click on custom , what is the rendering quality under VIDEO PROJECT ( preview, good, best) ?

in Vegas when you render as MPEG 2 you are choosing DVDA PAL video stream not DVD PAL

February 11, 2006 at 4:24 am in reply to: telecine Super 16mm to HDCAM

super 8 kodachrome maxes out at around 1440×960 pixels ..

i have found that old 16mm B&W from 1940 does not have same resolution as 1980’s B&W .. IMO the 1940’s does NOT have the resolution to take full advantage in a 1920×1080 clip (adding to it could be the old lens ?)…

i have had the 1980 B&W scanned 2k res and it does hold ..also i have telecined 4×3 16mm using inverse anamorphic then taking a 16×9 out of it and it holds up excellent ( little better then if you had it telecined 16×9) .
just guessing i would say that the 250D can hold its own in a 1920×1080 frame = you will see a huge improvement over 720×486 …

if you want a better image you could transfer 10bit 1920×1080 24p, 4:2:2 color space to hard drive … you could then render out to either HDcam, D5 or DVCproHD or 24p for a film out… the HDCAM is 8bit 1440×1080, 3:1:1 color space 29.97 to tape .

February 9, 2006 at 2:29 am in reply to: Questions about 2k & 1080 to film

it seems your weakest link is the NTSC digibeta ( though it is a excellent format)

are you considering going back to the negative to transfer HD or scan 2k ?

you might be able to get your pulled neg ( shot used in film) for ?? 5K

look over at http://www.pixelharvest.com transfer 2k resolution to 10bit cineform codec ..

so you took your super 16 neg and ??
did a HD 1920×1080 24p telecine to hard drive or you went to HD tape at 1080i ?
or you did a neg 2k scan to data files ?

February 4, 2006 at 5:30 pm in reply to: movie file is too big

many time “render as” QT defaults to uncompressed ( none) on NLE’s ..
you need to set it to use the DV codec .. some NLE’s you’ll find the setting under render as – then maybe custom – video format ( pull down window then choiose Dv ntsc or DV pal …
