We are using DVDA3 and Vegas 6. Using the default settings in DVDA yet the output of PAL video is really dissapointing. Images are flat [lack contrast and saturation] and the whole video stream is soft. VBR high is no more than 8kbs. BTW the DVD runs smoothly, no jittering. All this is a far cry from what I see on my tv monitor when editing. The DVD looks better on a computer monitor than a tv but not as good as the Vegas timeline images on the tv. There is a definite degrading of the image from Vegas to DVDA. They run between 5 and twenty minutes.
Images are firewired in from a 3 chip DVcam.

Are you guys getting great saturation and sharpness out of the process?

I am hoping it is just me and that I can fix this relatively easily and be on the road the pleasing looking images…soft muddy looking images of a pristine coral reef is a dissapointment…and no doubt to the client.. which reminds me that this is not doing my reputaion any good at all.
    Thx

are all your viewing monitors set up to a standard ( SMPTE color bars, color bars) ??

are the orginal tapes PAL ?

are you creating the mepg in DVDA or Vegas ?

in Vegas when you “render as” then click on custom , what is the rendering quality under VIDEO PROJECT ( preview, good, best) ?

in Vegas when you render as MPEG 2 you are choosing DVDA PAL video stream not DVD PAL

Yes. Also, when I view the DVD in a desktop for a tv in another room, same problem – flat images that are unsharp. Dissapointing believe me.

are the orginal tapes PAL ? Yes

are you creating the mepg in DVDA or Vegas ? Vegas/Main Concept

in Vegas when you “render as” then click on custom , what is the rendering quality under VIDEO PROJECT ( preview, good, best) ? Best

in Vegas when you render as MPEG 2 you are choosing DVDA PAL video stream not DVD PAL. DVDA PAL video stream.
