tell that to steven S as he could have shot any format he wanted for full frontal but he choose XL1 then in post added more ? dirty look to it ..

then tell Oliver S that when he shot JFK in 35mm, 16mm ,super8, & video that he could have just shot 35 and fixed all the looks in post …

it’s a creative decision ( this is where TALENT plays) !!!
for some it might be shoot with the best and fix all the “looks” in post and for others a combination of using different camera/formats and fine tuning “look” in post ..

if you one decides to shoot DV for the “look” i don’t think they would want to control it that much as the DV “look” is more on the funky side … and if they wanted a cleaner “look” for DV ( the film November) they would control the light/locations with proper gear and they did shoot November with DVX100 …

most shoot with the DVX or any other hand size camera NOT by choice over 2/3″ SD/HD/film but because $$$$ made their decision not because it was a creative one…

    i don’t think so …
vari cam is a different market then HVX ..
1/3 chips just don’t do what 2/3 chips can do ..

there may be projects that were sort of thinking of vari cam but couldn’t afford it and would never have rented it that will go with the HVX …
you either choose the camera based on what is needed for project or based on $$.
those that fall into $$ never could afford the VariCam in the 1st place…

HVX could be used as B camera/pick up shots/ or where Varicam size is a factor …

would you have any resolutions charts comparing it to the Z1 you could post ..or just a resolution chart from the hxv

didn’t you state that all info on the camera/CCd’s etc would be given when the camera was officially introduced ( which i think most assumed Dv expo) on one of these boards within past 2 months ?

” WHY would one pay this sort of money and not get
proper gear WITH talent. Nobody is discussing talent here”

because you get the “proper equipment that suits the project” and that just may be the hand size DV ” look ” if that is what they decide they want it to look like.

  • “as long as you are going use the $26,000 deck to go with that H1”

i’m pretty sure you you could use the wafian hr1 recorder ( direct to disc = 18hrs) using the canon for $10,500 ( current price – reg price is 15K) ..

    https://www.cineform.com/products/WafianHR1.htm

“Unfortunately for you Harry, you are making your decision based on what you saw”

we have to make our decision based on something !!!
and that is why some persons will buy canon and somebody else panasonic = based on what we see …

i went to the show to see/buy the hvx200 BUT after seeing it i’m on hold .. based on what i saw at the show on seeing the hxv on 17″ lcd’s i saw a little too much noise .. so i’m on hold till i see the image on a larger screen .. i saw only a slight difference between 1080 and 720 (1080 little less noise and it didn’t really seem to pick up resolution ??) but that could be because of the 720p lcd’s ???? or could be based on the CCD’s which are secret at the moment which is another whole story !

  • call rental houses that rent the DVX100 (they probably have orders in on hxv) …i believe most retailers have stated they are not expecting any orders to come in till Jan 5 …

forget the DTE it’s not going to happen by Jan 9 ..

money SPEAKS !!! find a dealer that knows they have one coming in on Jan 5 and offer them 2X the price and one just may move you to top of list … IMO if you’re expecting a dealer to get you one just because you are shooting a feature FORGET IT !!! i would say you didn’t plan aheead .. panasonic said they would deliver by end of year so you should have put a deposit ( refundable) on one …

i know you can get one from a individual by Jan 9 if you offer 2-3X the price !! or a very high $$ rental offer ! $$ speaks more then 12 years experience etc

till you decide to put some $$$ offers – i suggest you plan to use a different camera …

December 11, 2005 at 7:22 pm in reply to: AG HVX-200 List Price Increase!

the camera with 2 8gig cards was a savings of 1000 when the 8 gig cards were 2750 but they dropped to 2250 so that did away with the 1000 savings !! = it a wash for the camera & 8 gig as the price remains the same ..

it is probably up to the reseller on the price he gives you as he could sell it to you for the price when you ordered it ..

December 11, 2005 at 1:38 am in reply to: QuickTime HD and Sony Vegas

there are many different HD QT codec’s …

you’ll have to ask which codec they used .. did they capture HD using a SDI card ? if so maybe they used the black magic codec ? you could go over to the decklink site and download the 10bit BM ( million colors) codec ( it’s free) …

maybe they converted to QT h264? use the QT updater to install H264 ?

if it was a sony HDV camera then maybe they converted to the luminaire codec ?? which you would not be able to play …
