  • Availability?

Anyone know if there is a huge backlog?

I’ve been doing a constant mental bounce between the HVX-200 and other HDV options (canon, etc). I think this is going to come down to actual availability (for me).

If anyone is a reseller who will have inventory I’m ready to buy. I’ll monitor this thread as well. My problem is that I live on a barrier island along the gulf in Florida in a vacation area. The nearest reseller is hundreds of miles away so I’m not married to location being a factor.

There’s quite a waiting list- I’d suggest making contact with a dealer asap if you want one in the near term. B&H, EVS and Birns and Sawyer would be a good place to start.

So is there any chance that paying a $1000 over retail will get me to the top of a reseller’s list? 🙂

Anything’s possible though I suspect such a thing would be against the reseller agreements…

the samy’s camera booth at DV expo promised delivery of a HXV200 when the camera comes out in early 2006. their pricing was around $400 or $500 off the list price. panasonic is making the camera available at multiple resellers including LA shops moviola, birns and sawyer, and promax.

I got on the evs waiting list six weeks ago. They are promising to match the lowest price. They said they ordered 125 cameras but would not say what position I was in.
Nobody is promising specific delivery at a specific time. Look on e-bay Jan 1. I am sure people will sell there camera at a premium as soon as they get it.
    Kinda like the XBOX 360.

    Mike,

I hadn’t thought about that. I guess that is the route I’ll have to take. I’ve contacted over a dozen resellers and I’m looking at early to mid-February as the “earliest” possible time I can expect to receive one. I’ll just watch eBay and pay whatever the going rate is.

I have a project starting the 20th of January for 4 days that is perfect for this camera, is it unrealistic to think that if I buy one in the coming weeks (put deposit)to get it before my shooting date?? If if not possible, I will have to get a Varicam otherwise.

So far every reseller I’ve called or emailed has said to expect 30-60 days from the first week in January. That basically means early Feb or eary March. But I’ve only contacted 14 resellers so far.
