Media management, reconnecting and film editing is exactly the same for XPro and Media Composer. Biggest differences are there are more resolution option in MC and I/O connections. But all the necessary tools to edit a feature is there in XPro. You can even capture 24p with Standard Pulldown via firewire (no NLE does this). So that ‘only on big systems’ argument is not really legit regarding your needs.

Workflow wise, all what you need to track proper key/edgecode, TC, pulldown, audio TC, sync’ing, etc are all within the application. No need to go out (a la Cinema Tools).

I am cutting a short right now shot on 35mm/4 perf. Offline on DVCAM. We will then use Cut List to make a new selects transfer to HDCAM SR. CC on DaVinci or Pogle. Finish on HDCAM SR.

Of course if you are not familiar with the GUI, all the advantages goes out the window.

If you are familiar with FCP and now how to operate Cinema Tools properly, why switch if you are not familiar with your alternative?

ESP is 720/60p. But I would wait on the final spec sheet still. You never know for each show.

You can make a HDCAM 24p to 720/60p conversion. It is a pretty common conversion.
HDCAM SR (via 5500 deck) supports 1080 and 720. You can even cross convert using the deck (with optional 10K board).

You don’t need to slow it down. For all intent and purpose 29.97 audio = 23.976 audio.

  • You can capture 24p with Mojo using the analog inputs. You can also capture 24p via firewire – no Mojo needed.

Do it at your own risk, but the bug is well documented.

It will not work in 64 bit mode. The dongle security drivers does not work in 64 bit mode. So you cannot even start the application to test.

BTW – there is a bug that affects some AMD users – a green line with their QT files.

Not really an Avid question but I would check your video card. Make sure you are supplying it with enough power.

  • There is no Mac version 5.2. There is an upcoming version 5.5 that will allow you to do what you want to do.

Should be out in 2 weeks.

Current PC version (v5) and upcoming Mac version (v5.5) can edit DV50 natively. You can use firewire as your I/O.
