D5 is compressed HD also. But it is full bandwidth (full raster). The compression is 4:1 or 5:1.

In SD mode it is uncompressed.

  • You can move DVC Pro HD QT movies from FCP to Avid as long as both are on OS X platform. Apple does not provide the FCP DVC Pro HD codec on the PC platform. Apple has their own codec for DVC Pro HD as well as Avid. But like anything else in digital video world, the receiving software must have access to the video’s codec or it will not work.

Avids supports DVC Pro HD on version 2 or higher of Adrenaline. But as I mentioned before, without the codec from Apple, Avid will not know how to translate the FCP QT movies.

Also don’t forget that Avids do not understand QT based TC information.

Many little but the biggest are…

    Paint and Animatte
    more resolutions/compression available
9 way vs 4 way multicam

    and minor UI differences:
unlimited vs 3 lines of info for TC window
    center duration
2 row of buttons/info on Composer window (AXP has only 1)
    reverse match frame

    basically the same:
    color correction
    FX system
    audio FX

if you need a true 10 bit then you would need MC + Adrenaline BOB.
AXP has partial 10 bit. And Mojo (either version) is 8 bit only.

I provided the link for all the Avid codecs including DV and HD. The only Avid codec that is not distributable is the dead AVR and MPEG IMX codec (licensing issues).

There where issues with MC 7.1. Often going to 7.2 resolved it. If this is not feasible (which is likely) you may want to open the open the file in a modern Avid and exporting it back out again.

  • Yea 2.5.x and 2.6.6 seems to be very stable.

FYI – if you are upgrading from version 1.x to 2.x it is HIGHLY recommended that it is a clean install of the OS. If not, at least don’t migrate user settings and Avid settins (aka MC State, Site Settings and etc) since they are not compatible. The will cause you a lot of headache.

Try to monitor one audio track at a time. See if you can figure out with media is corrupt. Just delete it and recapture.

Also, open the Console (under Tools)and type REPAIRSEQUENCES while your sequence is open.

Was this drive moved from another system? If it was a PC system, you may have an OS permission issue.
Take ownership of the OMFI media folder and add ‘everyone’ with full control in the security panel.

It is currently under public beta (you have to have assurance). So once that is done, it should go gold. I think the public beta started about 2-3 weeks ago.
